Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Heating, Cooling and Ventilation passive house 21Oct 04, 2010 1:12 pm very interesting Frank.... i love the idea... something clever and simple... I have been trying to work out if we could use the swimming pool (if it was in a different location) for something like this... any ideas? Re: Heating, Cooling and Ventilation passive house 22Oct 05, 2010 9:12 pm I have seen a design where a pool was located in the sunspace and vents then connected into the main building. Can't say how well it works. Re: Heating, Cooling and Ventilation passive house 23Oct 07, 2010 2:13 pm Our 9.1 stars has been achieved in part by reverse brick veneer on our west, east and north walls. It's not all where it should be ... in the bedrooms it would have been better on the internal walls, but that was the only place for the wardrobes. We have low embodied energy on the outside, then insulation, then the brick. As far as I know, water has the best thermal mass of any commonly available material. I looked at groundhogs (http://rainwaterhog.com/products/groundhog/), but we ultimately got enough mass from our slab. Our designer mentioned ages ago that there are now some vertical internal water storage devices for the same purpose. Haven't seen any mention of such elsewhere, but I will try to remember to ask her. e. Re: Heating, Cooling and Ventilation passive house 24Nov 04, 2010 10:19 am Interesting idea Elizabeth... At the very least it gave me the idea to put our water tanks against the west walls of the house where possible.... It should help a little on hot summer days... In the mean time we have got an Awadukt system (ground to air heat exchange AKA earth tube) quoted and just placed a deposit so we are on the way to getting this happening... Re: Heating, Cooling and Ventilation passive house 25Nov 08, 2010 3:27 pm FrankE, What do you mean by "going for broke" in relation to thermal mass? Does it mean you are trying to do things right from the get-go, or you're trying to add mass wherever possible? 0 4934 Brass fly wire, you will need to cut it, shape it and jam it into brick slots 1 7450 |
