Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 22, 2010 3:15 pm Hi folks We have purchased a newly renovated old house - will be moving in early Oct. It has gas ducted heating (assume it's gas..... is there any other type of ducted heating ). Anyway, the 'return' for the heating is on a wall near the entrance - what is the 'rule' (so to speak) for clearance surrounding the return. Ie, can we build a cupboard on that wall that would then enclose/encompass the return (would it need to be a slatted/ventilated cupboard door?). Or can you put furniture up against it or what clearance do you need to allow? Or does it need to be totally left without anything near it/over it/around it?? Does anyone know? Yes, you can build a cupboard around it, and yes you'd want a louvred grille in the door, etc. I wouldn't be putting any furniture hard up against it.
