Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 25, 2010 10:35 am Hi all, In Melbourne and about to commence a new two storey build and working through the complex choice around heating and cooling. Have read a lot of posts and talked to one supplier but still needing some advice. At this stage we are wanting to go for a Breamar Zoned central gas heating system with addon refrig a/c but when talking to supplier got all the pros and cons of every other combination under the sun and ended up nothing but confused and undecided. At this stage I am unclear on the pros and cons of the central gas/add on aircon combination choice versus doing just the straight out reverse cycle a/c unit for both heating and cooling. Any advice here greatly appreciated. Re: Addon Cooling to Central Gas Heating 3Jul 25, 2010 2:01 pm Thanks for the response Dynomite. The things still swimming in my head are: - If I go the gas/ elec unit does the gas unit tend to get overspec'd so it can do it's job of pushing around cool air at required level? Does that mean you are exposed to higher running costs during heating periods unnecessarily ? If the majority of time you are doing heating does that make it a bigger issue ? - It is interesting that Breamar Ecostar promote using the unit with a ducted cooling system but refer you to your cooling specialist. As stated before this specialist tended to try and steer me more towards the reverse cycle a/c rather than the add-on with gas central.. Does anyone have experience in this device with a cooling add-on and if so which cooling product did you use and what have you learnt ? Re: Addon Cooling to Central Gas Heating 4Jul 25, 2010 3:36 pm The heater should stop the fan when thermostat setting is reached. Overspeccing heater or cooler is inefficient. In most mixed climates heating uses more energy than cooling. Natural gas heating is generally cheaper than RCAC. Unless you live in Queensland, heating is always the more significant cost i.e. gas + add on cool is cheaper to run Hi, just need to ask if anyone build with Central Properties in Victoria. Thankd 0 4021 Anybody know any good and reasonably priced Air conditioning contractors/companies that could install a ducted air conditioning system in the Central Coast NSW for a small… 0 8994 4 10821 |
