Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 07, 2010 12:56 am Hi We have been informed by our airconditioning company that due to our truss roof that we can no longer have the Mitsubishi ducted ac system we specced. We now need to have a 'ducted split system', which is more expensive (although we dont have to pick up the extra) and is put in the display homes. Does anyone know the difference between the ducted and ducted split, and whether it is better or not??? Cheers Re: Ducted split system 2Jul 07, 2010 6:11 am They're the same... a split system simply means the system is split into 2 parts, an indoor unit and an outdoor unit... although traditionally a 'split' is used to mean a 'high wall split' i.e. one of those things with the fancoil hanging off an internal wall in one of your rooms... and a 'ducted' is a 'ducted split system' where the fancoil is usually in the roof or under the floor and air is distributed via ducts to various points around the house... All in one systems are things like window rattlers or Weathervane type things that take up half a wall... non-split ducteds are things like packaged units that sit on top of commercial buildings and hard duct is run through the building... you deffo don't want a monster like that...! I'd be trying to find out exactly why you can't have what you specced... It may be that the roof trusses haven't allowed enough room... or it may be that the installer is getting a better deal with another system and is trying to move it... whatever, I think you need to find out exactly what and why... Re: Ducted split system 3Jul 08, 2010 3:07 am Cheers for the reply. I have been told that the trusses don't allow for the room needed in the original system. I have also been told that this new system is more expensive and better therefore we are not worse off because of this change. I just want to make sure that this is the case.......
