Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 14, 2010 8:33 pm hi all, we are in a 1930's cottage with origional floor boards. we have evap cooling in the roof and are interested in ducted gas heating in the floor, however we are on bottled gas and dont know how much it would use/cost to run in accordance to the bottled gas or even if they can take LP gas at all? if anybody can clarify that would be great. Re: gas ducted heating 2Jun 14, 2010 10:30 pm You will find that LPG (bottled gas) is usually about 3x more expensive than town (reticulated, natural) gas per MJ of heating. It is often even more expensive than using RCAC (with electricity). Re: gas ducted heating 3Jun 17, 2010 10:22 am hi there thanks, we already have bottled gas for a space heater in the lounge (about 15 years old) so were wondering if it would be similar consumption as this or how much more etc...the heater is so old so its bound to be less efficient. the trouble is that the space heater only heats the lounge, then we have oil heaters for the bedrooms and nothing in the kitchen or dinning room, meaning we eat in the lounge over winter (which is not ideal for us)...we would love to have something do the whole house, but we already have ducted evap cooling which we dont want to replace and the wall splits are not ideal either. Re: gas ducted heating 4Jun 17, 2010 1:53 pm Personally I would put one or two RCAC splits in. This would be your cheapest option in running costs. The only other alternative is replace the LPG heater with a wood stove (if wood is cheap) and use a heat shifter fan kit to duct hot air into the kitchen.
