Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 03, 2010 6:50 pm Hi all,
We have been told by our aircon installer that we need to put in single phase power which is to be terminated with an isolation switch mounted next to the location of the outdoor unit. We have 3 phase power but the aircon is a single phase system (Actron). We are near handover so I was wondering how much a sparky should charge for a job like this? Thanks, PN Re: Electrical question - external isolation switch cost 2Jun 03, 2010 11:34 pm A lot of air-conditioner installer quotes include the supply feed, etc. as well, yours didn't? Even though you've got three phase power available all your light, power points, etc. will be single phase. Re: Electrical question - external isolation switch cost 3Jun 04, 2010 12:19 am No - unfortunately ours said that the only part of the install which was to be done by others was the power supply terminated with an isolation switch. Thanks for the info on the single phase. Any thoughts on roughly how much a sparky would charge to put in such an isolation switch and connect up to the power supply? Re: Electrical question - external isolation switch cost 5Jun 04, 2010 10:36 am The size we wanted at Actron only came in single phase. The larger ones are 3 phase but we don't need that size for the size of our home so we went for the single phase. The lnext size up was 3 phase but was also more expensive. Re: Electrical - How much do external isolation switches cos 6Jun 04, 2010 10:11 pm I estimate our installer charged ~$250.00 to install the separate feed as he had to run the cable ~15 metres from one side of the house to the other. The isolation switch was installed inside the meter-box. It sounds like your unit is much bigger and will require heavier cable, etc. Re: Electrical - How much do external isolation switches cos 8Jun 05, 2010 7:39 am ![]() ...how much a sparky should charge for a job like this?... We pay ours $240 + GST for 20amp circuits and $290 + GST for 32amp circuits... you'd need to check the manufacturers requirements but 32amps is likely your need... We too quote excluding power for construction jobs because there's always a site sparky and they can get a bit arsey if someone else turns up and starts running cables around their site... Thanks IceMan ![]() Our Actron unit is the 18kW SRV175E/SRD175C. According to the spec sheet the Rated Amps (AS3823.1.2) are 25.1, and the Circuit Breaker Amps are 40.0 So would this mean a 32 Amp circuit or does it have to be higher than 40? Could you give me an idea of how much you would charge if you were doing a similar piece of work for a customer, and what amp circuit you'd put in? If the specs say it's a 40amp circuit then that's what you do... Price wise it'd depend upon how much cable, how long timewise, etc... The prices I mentioned above are based on the fact that we can be putting in several circuits a week, so you take the rough with the smooth and fix the price... The site sparky should be able to do it pretty cheap since he's there already...
