Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 05, 2010 3:25 pm Dear Friends We have another dilemna - we want ducted A/C preferabley not through our builder who is asking $ 10.5 k for 5.5 HP, 9 Outlet, 3 zone but I am also bit hesitant in some other vendor turning up for the installation after house is constructed . I feel if I go for an A/C vendor it could be cheaper for me. Any thoughts?? The builder has refused to only instal the ducts without the machine. Is it woth challenging the builder to only put the ducts in and I get the machine later? How much the machine and ducts would cost me if I go out? Thanks in advance.. Re: Ducted Airconditioning 2Jun 05, 2010 5:43 pm Hi Mission, Our builder is installing for us the ducting, the zoning (2 zones), the fan and the 3 phase power for $4100 - we plan on paying cash for a Brivis unit (it has to be Brivis based on the stuff the builder is installing) during Winter and paying cash to get it installed - our builder was going to charge $11500 for the entire unit but we have read on here many complaints about the contractors they use to install the units - so we opted to find our own contractors afterward. I would challenge the builder if that's what you would like - maybe shop around for units before you make a decision - I don't think the builders mark up these units much because they are expensive anyway!? (unless I'm being completely naive - although my father who was in air con for many years did say that what we would've got for the $11.5k was a good deal) Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: Ducted Airconditioning 3Jun 15, 2010 5:31 pm Correct me if im wrong, but the price your builder quoted sounds quite reasonable to me especially you don't need to worry about it after hand-over. our builder has a promotion of 9 ducted outlet aircon for free but it's only evaporative so we're getting money re-imbursed for that (Around 4k) and getting reverse cycle ourselves after handover. and we're budgeting just about that price. 10k. I've seen cheapest for around 8k but it does get really messy doing it after hand-over so if our builder only could have done it for that price, i would have gone with builder. hassel-free. Re: Ducted Airconditioning 4Jun 15, 2010 7:54 pm I'll move this for you...doesn't really belong in the kitchen forum. Re: Ducted Airconditioning 5Jun 18, 2010 10:29 pm We spent $15 000 on a dakin ducted a/c sorry don't know the spec's. If you are not sure if you are getting a good price take your plans to a couple of a/c installers and get a couple of quotes, it can be easily done off the plan.
