Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 13, 2010 11:04 am Did someone do the following job: remove cedar cladding, insulate the walls with bats and put the cedar cladding on once again. We might get a builder for putting it on once again, they are far quicker as we are. Did you break much of the cladding? Did you put a the blue foil on as well? How long did it take? Re: Wall insulation cedar cladding 2May 14, 2010 1:09 pm I have recently done th opposite by puuting new boards on an extension. ANyway I have done this and it is really hard to pull boards off without breaking them. What I may suggest is that you very carefully pry the board away from the wall and as the cedar is quite soft you will pull nail head throught he timber. Dont hurry it. It is really easy to put the boards back on if you have a hand from someone just make sure you pre drill NEW holes for nails and start over. Make sure that you allow a 25mm overlap for the boards so that it is water tight. Foil wrap is essential as it does have insulation properties and is really inexpensive - around $100 for a premium roll. start by putting the bottom layer of wrap on 1st then put additional layers allowing for a 100mm overlap. Depending on size of job you could have a large wall on and off within a day. I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements.
