Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 30, 2010 10:29 am We are looking at cooling and heating options Our existing and old heating unit for ducted heating is only 2.5 watts ( i think) so rather than replace ( apparently would need another smaller unit due to some complex reason due to size of connections We have been advised that because we want to cool or heat separate rooms in a 4 br 2 living area brick veneer house, our best bet is a Daikin system which would allow for this off one main remote ( operating from individual sensors) at $2400 per room When I asked if this was a cost effective way to heat he stated that the costs to run heating was around 5c per day per room Can anyone confirm this or suggest other options ? Thanks Candi ************* First time renovator VIC Re: daikin refridgerated heating what are costs to run? 2Apr 30, 2010 6:33 pm That sounds a bit optimistic for a Melbourne climate. A combustion stove or natural gas heater are usually the cheapest to run. How many rooms will you be heating at one time? How many hours per day? What thermostat setting? What are your insulation levels like? Re: daikin refridgerated heating what are costs to run? 3Apr 30, 2010 7:25 pm dymonite69 That sounds a bit optimistic for a Melbourne climate. HI dymonite69 thanks for replying I would say it would be one or two living areas one large open plan and early morning 3/4 bedrooms for heating anyway I guess around 18 degrees no idea about insultaion as we have just bought the house Its a 1960s brick veneer if this gives you anymore to go on?? Clueless I know! Candi ************* First time renovator VIC Re: daikin refridgerated heating what are costs to run? 4Apr 30, 2010 9:16 pm Here are some assumptions based on what you have given. Outside temp 8 Thermostat setting 18 No wall insulation Ceiling insulation about 2 inches thick Heat for 4 hours per day Area heated 40m2 Electricity 20c/kWhr It might cost you around $3.50 day If it really cost 5c per day to heat each room then the heating output would be equivalent to running a 1kW small bar heater in each room for about 45mins per day.
