Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 26, 2010 9:27 pm My 12 yo 2 storey battleaxe duplex has the upstairs bedrooms on the western side of the house adjacent to a park (i.e. no trees in the section next to the house). It has always been very hot upstairs in summer but bareable downstairs. Since installing insulation batts (thanks Pete!) and 2 roof twistas a couple of months ago, the heat in the house, both upstairs and down has become unbearable - roll on July, I long to be cold again. So my questions is which of the latest 'improvements' has caused the increase in temperature when I was foolishly thinking insulation would make it cooler? BTW our roof has absolutely no sarking. Would installing sarking rectify the issue? Has anyone else had a similar experience? Many Thanks PS Forgot to add the house is brick veneer with tile roof. It acts a barrier unlike batts which merely slow the heat transfer rate. Batts are more effective to stop conducted heat loss in winter. The problem now is that heat eventually makes its way in and has difficult getting out again due to the batts. A lack of ventilation also will exacerbate this effect. The simple rule is foil for summer, batts for winter - both if you have both extremes. Found the answer. The recommended distance is .... 1 4588 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
