Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 09, 2010 11:17 am At night time this causes an issue as I do not want to open the blinds for people to see through, but I may want cooling on. Some air can escape from the sides but to stop 'whistling' several windows need to be open. a) Will this cause damage to the blinds? b) Will this cause damage to the cooling system? c) Any other viable alternatives? Cheers, niko Re: Evap cooling and Holland Blinds 2Mar 09, 2010 1:10 pm I have holland/roller blinds in my kids rooms, bathroom and toilet. I don't open the kids bedroom windows if I have the cooling on during the night but open the toilet and playroom windows instead. You'll need to have some windows open otherwise your cooling won't work as well and the pressure/moisture will build up within the house. Happy at Home Re: Evap cooling and Holland Blinds 3Mar 09, 2010 7:25 pm HTB is dead right about the cooling not working properly without windows open. We have roller blinds in the kids' rooms too and I have them open a few inches so the air can get through. Their bedrooms only look out onto our backyard and we have 1.8m fences, so no privacy issues... The rest of the house has mainly venetians, and I have to leave those partly open too - but with blades tilted the right way, privacy isn't a problem. You could replace the rollers with some other kind of window treatment in some rooms or just open the blinds in rooms where privacy isn't a problem. Re: Evap cooling and Holland Blinds 4Mar 15, 2010 8:19 am Sorry, probably didn't explain myself properly. I understand that windows need to be opened, but what I'm saying is will it be a problem to have the window open but blinds DOWN? This will obviously allow air to escape, but not as much as the blinds fully opened. Wondering if this could damage the blinds. And Whether this is ok for the evap system. Re: Evap cooling and Holland Blinds 5Mar 15, 2010 8:42 am I have roller blinds on west facing windows, and I have inadvertently left them down with windows open. They not only got creases in them but obviously the air flow was severely restricted. Just my experience anyway. The blinds would be sucked into the window so would crease them.. but probably wouldn't damage them as in my experience the creases come out... but I would have the blinds up a little bit or just open bathroom windows or windows in living areas. Re: Evap cooling and Holland Blinds 7Mar 15, 2010 11:05 am I never ever fully open our holland blinds, they are either halfway or 3/4 way open. I open the windows every morning and have the cooling on when neccessary. I don't have any creases/wrinkles in my blinds at all.
