Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 16, 2010 8:04 pm Hi - hoping someone can help me. Our evap cooling will dump it's water every now and then, which I know it should do - but it dumps it over the side of the house and onto the ground. Should it be set up to instead end up in the gutters or downpipes so that it drains away properly? At this stage it is creating a muddy spot which of course the dog loves to go and dip his legs in... just lovely! From what I've seen around my street they all run down into the gutter. I noticed some of the new houses even have a small white pipe leading from the unit to the gutter. Happy at Home Re: Evap cooling - where should the water go? 3Feb 16, 2010 9:09 pm Thanks House-to-be. Ours lands next to the water tank.... sounds like we need to get in touch with the builder. We hadn't picked this up at maintenance, but given at that time we picked up a few issues related to plumbing, it seems our plumber did a few 80% jobs and didn't quite finish off properly. Very annoying. I believe this discharge water can be high in minerals and salts. I don't think I would want it in my drinking water but I suppose it wouldn't matter if it was only for the garden, etc. Due this mineral and salt content, I believe this is why you will see some houses with the piping running the discharge water from roof. I assume this prevents the risk of any staining on the tiles, etc. I wouldn't think the salty water would be all that good for your guttering over a number of years either. For the above reasons, my parents have piping running down the roof, over the guttering to the ground and the water simply gets absorbed into the lawn. They don't have any muddy spots due to having thick couch grass. At a previous rental house I was in, they had a pipe run the water through the roof, out under the eaves and down the wall, where it would go straight into a drain put there just for this discharge water. Maybe you just need to put a small amount of paving down or similar to deal with the muddy spot if you can't get lawn to grow there. Anyway, that is my thoughts! The water should always end up in your stormwater... We'll be diverting ours to the tank too - why waste perfectly good water when we can flush it down the loos? Re: Evap cooling - where should the water go? 7Feb 17, 2010 9:09 pm I spent heaps of time researching whether catching this water was safe and no one I could find had any useful info...tank companies, brivis etc... there arent any guidelines I could find. hence ours runs into our water tank which we use for the toilet and garden only... now I feel a bit less guilty Re: Evap cooling - where should the water go? 8Feb 17, 2010 9:52 pm I could never suggest drinking this water. Re: Evap cooling - where should the water go? 9Feb 17, 2010 9:53 pm We have ours plumbed under the garden beds via an ag drain. Re: Evap cooling - where should the water go? 10Feb 20, 2010 3:36 pm I visited our build yesterday and noticed that some plumbing had been installed. I was looking at the water waste drain pipes in the ensuite and noticed a pipe running up to the roof. At first I couldn't think of what this pipe could be, however I now think that it maybe a waste pipe for drainage of our evaporative cooling unit. If this is the case, the evap cooler will share the waste pipe with one of our ensuite hand basins. Re: Evap cooling - where should the water go? 11Feb 22, 2010 1:47 pm Lets Build has come the closest to the answer. However that pipe is probably put there as a vent pipe. In SA it is not legal to discharge it to stormwater (street gutter) and since many rainwater tank users drink their rainwater (including me) that is not the place for it either. The simplest, best and easiest method is to drill a hole in the sewer vent pipe above the roof level and put it in there. Plastic pipe, no rusting gutters, no contamination. Only disadvantage is to check the bleed-off flow you need get on the roof. i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 15822 hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20855 I've decided, after a period of confusion (my building broker told me it's probably not worth it to use a lawyer, but others have said it is a must) that I definitely will… 7 27899 |
