Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 31, 2010 9:13 pm I have an American magazine and am curious as to how US R ratings differ to ours. I've googled it and know they are different but don't know how to convert. Can anyone give me a simple explanation? For example, insulation in a ceiling has an R rating of 60 - what is that here? Thanks. Re: R values for insulation in the USA, how do they compare 2Jan 31, 2010 9:39 pm In the US, the units of thermal resistance are h.ft2.°F/Btu. In the rest of the world, the units are K.m2/W. To convert US units into SI (Standard International of Units), alos known as metric units, divide by 5.7. So R60 in the US is somethign like R10 elsewhere (which is a lot of insulation!) Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13718 I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 29636 |
