Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 29, 2010 9:16 am Hi All Our house is pretty much complete, however one problem we do have is that there is only 1 Air Con/heating controller and we have built a 2 storey house. They have installed the only controller on the 2nd storey which seems very strange to me as I have only ever seen them on the 1st storey or on both floors. We have raised this issue with the company installing the A/C and they have advised that with this system (Brivis) you cant get 2 controllers (1 for downstairs) and that the controller has to be installed close to the unit thats in the roof of the 2nd floor. Any help or advice would be greatly appreaciated as this doesnt seem right, as upstairs is only bedrooms and downstairs is all living areas so we would have to walk upstairs everytime we want to turn on or adjust the Air Con/Heating. Cheers Gav Re: Air Con 2nd controller 3Jan 29, 2010 9:36 am That sounds strange. We have ordered an Actron system that comes with 2 controllers - one for upstairs, other for down. Perhaps there is a wireless unit available as an extra controller? What does it say in the contract? Ours had only 1 controller and we had to add and pay for a 2nd one. After 4 years - we're in! Cheers Gav Call BRIVIS customer support and find out if you can or cannot have two controllers from their perspective - this must be resolved before anything else. Most brands I looked at take two controllers and NO wireless ones which is a pain. In my case it was 6 months after build, some of the a.c installers flat out refused to even contemplate a 2nd controller for downstairs "too hard", others said "yeah they'll do it along an outside wall", putting the wire in a conduit but next to a downpipe, stink-pipe or something like that where it can't be seen so much. BUT my excellent a.c installer and I worked on this together, he wanted me there because I knew more about the wiring than anyone. I found the front door bell / intercom wire which went from the roof right down to the kitchen where it was perfect to have the 2nd controller. They simply tied the controller wire to that and pulled them both up and fed them back down again. Hard to explain but they'll know how to do it - if they can be bothered. So where there's a will there's a way, you'll have alarm wires, intercom or door bell wires, light switch wires etc etc all of which they can piggy back off. Failing that just go outside and "tart" it all up nicely. Go for it I wouldn't give up - having 2 controllers is much better. Thanks Stonecutter Well the A/C installer is not providing any options and is pretty much saying nothing can be done, I will enquire about a wireless controller. Our contract actually states a Bonaire system however the installer when we originally met him onsite about 6 months ago talked us into the brivis. We never signed a variation though. We were never given the option for a 2nd controller or even asked where we want the controller positioned. How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5947 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
