Re: Insulation & Government rebates 2Jan 27, 2010 7:53 pm If you already have insulation in your ceiling you are not eligible for the government grant just because you arent happy with it, you would have to pay to have it replaced at your own expense... Re: Insulation & Government rebates 3Jan 29, 2010 9:11 pm well i just bought this house and didnt know that there was insulation installed and was not installed properly so, do i still get the government rebate or do i have to spend it from my pocket Re: Insulation & Government rebates 4Jan 29, 2010 9:41 pm mightychristos well i just bought this house and didnt know that there was insulation installed and was not installed properly so, do i still get the government rebate or do i have to spend it from my pocket After spending 90 seconds searching Google and doing some light reading the following seems to apply. www.environment.gov.au/energyefficiency ... index.html The insulation program is not designed to apply to houses that have existing insulation =< 0.5 R-Value. The installer has to sign off on this requirement and may find themselves on the deregistered list if they do not correctly follow the appropriate guidelines. Not true.... we got our current house done today and we had insulation previously. Only condition was that the current insulation had to have a R vaue of 0.5 or lower Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Insulation & Government rebates 8Jan 30, 2010 9:14 am My parents had their house done, the old insulation was 25 years old and looked like a few cm of lint/fluff! Big 45sq double storey house, but this was done when the rebate was $1600 and was enough to do the whole house. The installer said they just lay the new batts on top of the old fluff - while you could pay extra to suck out the old insulation, no real need to do so, unless you really don't like the idea of the old insulation sticking around! Theoretically the R values add up (ie about 0.2 for old insulation + 3.5 for new insulation = r3.7 total insulation) T&T Knockdown and rebuild - building Metr1con Nolan 41 (43) @ http://tim-and-tina.blogspot.com! http://www.verdantdental.com.au Re: Insulation & Government rebates 9Jan 30, 2010 10:03 am It's interesting that when the rebate was 1600 the quote for us came in at $1600 and when it was reduced to $1200 the quote came in at guess what amount..... Our house is small and our neighbours house is at least 50% larger and their quote came in to the same amount too Re: Insulation & Government rebates 10Jan 30, 2010 1:35 pm Fernyhouse It's interesting that when the rebate was 1600 the quote for us came in at $1600 and when it was reduced to $1200 the quote came in at guess what amount..... Our house is small and our neighbours house is at least 50% larger and their quote came in to the same amount too I remember reading that the insulation industry including installers recommended to the Gov. that $1200.00 was an ideal number for most houses and $1600.00 would encourage abuse of the system and unsafe work practices by poorly trained installers. It's a pity the Gov. didn't listen to them from the start because a lot more houses can be insulated at the lower figure and a few installers might still be alive today. Hmmmm I wasnt home at the time so I dont know whether the old insulation was removed But the $1200 was enough for whatever they did... I think the area was 120m2 if that helps?
