If yes then you may as well use it for heating too. Reason - you will pay the supply charge anyway. I just got a gas bill for summer period, $7.81 for the gas, supply charge $53.65. The gas was only used for the stove and the quantity I calculated as less than a BBQ bottle full . Off topic point get RFL insulation under your roof and in walls which get summer sun. Money well spent. Re: Suggestions for heating options for Adelaide plains? 22Feb 22, 2010 2:11 pm Yeah, we have natural gas. Although we're now flirting with the idea of induction for cooking, so the question to be asked at this stage is if it is worthwhile connecting gas at all, to avoid the supply charge. We're putting in solar HW, was planning on gas boost, but could be electric I guess. All comes down to what we want to do with heating, I suppose. Edit: We'll have sarking in the roof, wasn't planning on it for the walls - eaves should largely take care of that during summer, I believe. Re: Suggestions for heating options for Adelaide plains? 23Feb 22, 2010 8:07 pm The energy cost and running cost of induction versus gas cooktop will be negligible unless you happen to run a commercial kitchen. If you want to reduce bills signficantly then focus on what you going to use for heating (half of residential household energy use goes toward this). Re: Suggestions for heating options for Adelaide plains? 24Feb 23, 2010 8:10 am Was thinking further about the issue of potentially not connecting gas at all, but does anyone know about the legislation in SA about gas vs electricity with water heating etc? Is it just the electric storage units that are being phased out or something?
