When I walk into my house on a 40 degree day and it feels like I am walking into a fridge, I am more than happy. I guess as the saying goes - you get what you pay for. This only has one outdoor unit and can run multiple indoor units. As for cost, I have just seen a mitsubishi 8kw with 1 6kw and 2 2.2 kw indoor units for around $4k plus install. Some of the big daikin units can run up to 9 indoor units off one outdoor unit. Andy Andy, Thank you VERY much for bringing this to my attention - I've never seen this! You're a champ Re: Evaporative cooling or refridgerated cooling? 23Jan 12, 2010 11:10 am In the new house, I have 4 splits in the bedrooms running off a multi unit. I then have a seperate unit in the master bedroom, and the living area. Multi's are great, but from memory it cost me about $1000 more than running 4 independent units in each room (it does save having 4 external units though). Worried about the orientation of the house now.... kek you said something about west-facing large windows?? I think thats what we have.. The green arrows point to the main windows in the rear area, on the west side. The red arrow points north, in our case. Window furnishings are timber basswood venetians, in a Mahogany (deep moroine colour) if that makes a difference. The same model (Brivis Profiler with Winterseal and Network Controller, which Carlisle specifies for the Atlantique), would cost $4450. Thats a saving of $500! I asked if the evaporative cooling is zoned.. but they said it cant be zoned. Is this true? Re: UPDATE! If the red arrow faces North then you definetely have those green arrow windows facing west. No think about it - its a certainty Re: Evaporative cooling or refridgerated cooling? 29Jan 12, 2010 5:56 pm Salt&PepperMkII Worried about the orientation of the house now.... kek you said something about west-facing large windows?? Window furnishings are timber basswood venetians, in a Mahogany (deep moroine colour) if that makes a difference. Those al fresco windows might be a problem too. Our west facing window is under a verandah but we ended up putting a roller shutter on it because of the afternoon sun. Window furnishings inside the window are far less effective than adequate shade outside the window. Best to stop the sun hitting the window in the first place. Or the other possibility is window tinting, sorry I don't know how that compares in technical terms. Re: UPDATE! Evaporative cooling or refridgerated cooling? 30Jan 12, 2010 8:32 pm The front of our house faces West which is the Master and Study. I have roller blinds plus drapes in the master - works a treat and a blockout Roman in the Study, again works a treat and our study does not have a cooling vent. Somone I know has just had roller blinds installed behind their timber venetians just for the afternoon sun. Yes I know it changes the whole look from outside but if it keeps the sun/heat out then that might be the way to go (or think about). Outside awning of some kind will help too Happy at Home Re: UPDATE! Evaporative cooling or refridgerated cooling? 31Jan 12, 2010 8:50 pm Thanks for your replies everyone! It doesnt help that the kitchen bifold window (in alfresco) doesnt have blinds!!
