Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 03, 2010 8:38 pm Hello, Trying to fix a bad condensation problem in south facing bedrooms in 1960's Melb BV home. Had Mould expert say we need more ventilation than 2 high wall vents but worried rooms are cold enough. Underfloor seems dry and in any season can feel temp diff just walking from one end of house to the other.. going to block wall vents, already have 6-7 underfloor vents under this room... Considering insulating walls by having rockwool or similar pumped in via roof then underfloor insulation of floorboards... Our windows are large single glazed but $$ prevents us from replacing with dbl glazed ones at this time(have thick long curtains) Roof already insulated years ago.. Any feedback welcome on whether this is best idea or anyone who does this wall insulation? He did but It just had a diagram with where two more high wall vents would go.... and the cost of course. It just says we need more ventilation.. Re: Wall cavity Insulation, need advice for retrofit to BV 4Jan 04, 2010 7:56 pm Condensation occurs when warm moist air meets a cold surface. Ventilation is one solution but then you lose all your heat and waste energy. The better solution is to make surfaces warmer i.e. insulation. Windows are most vulnerable to this but as you mention proper double glazing is expensive. There are cheaper (though less effective) methods of insulating windows that could mitigate your condensation (and mould) problem. I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 29741 Hey guys, what’s everyone opinion on James Hardie linea direct fix to frame? Would this be the most common method and anybody ever had any problems down the track? 0 5132 Firstly, if your house is still under builder's warranty (10 years in Victoria) you should have no need to crawl into roof space but let the builder handle it, unless you… 3 5633 |
