Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 28, 2009 7:01 pm Hi guys, My wife and I are building an Aquarius 32 with Cosmopolitan homes in Sydney's Northern beaches and included in our tender we have asked for a ducted system. They have specified a 22.54KW, 3 phase Actron (I assume the base standard model) with up to 10 multi-directional outlets. Also included is a 5 yr warranty in lieu of a 2 year. They have given us a price of $13,900. This seems high considering its the base model system they are offering. My question is, firstly, would this size system suit a home with a First floor of 137m2 and a ground floor of 120m2 and secondly, would it be more cost effective having an ESP + or Ultima system installed after handover. I know it's going to be hard to get ducting into the ground floor after completion of the house though. Thanks for any input.... Cheers, Adrian. Cant remember if it was specifically for an Actron, I ended up with a Daiken 16kw, for approx $11,500. Thats for approx 150m2 of bedrooms/living. Most places were quoting me 12kw. Re: Not sure about the Actron 23KW Ducted System in new home 4Dec 28, 2009 9:29 pm Our quote is for the 19kw ESP Plus, 8 zones, 11 outlets, 2 return grills and 2 wall controls. Its a 2 storey home, approx 32sqm. Quote price is $15468. Hope this helps with your comparisons. Be careful with post build air-con's getting droppers downstairs can be major problem. Most air-con manufacturers use *wired* wall controllers, these can also be a hassle to install post-build. As for that quote, it isn't outrageous. We just installed an Actron ESP Plus 18.9kW for $12k, 8 zones, 11 outlets. The "ESP" (not plus) was $11k. The difference in price between different Actron models is not that great, $1k here, $2k there so you should be able to get the model you want. I'd go ESP or ESP Plus personally. The size is of the unit is the most important thing. We also had quotes for Daikin 15.5kW $12k and Temperzone about $13k Our builder quoted us $14100 for a 20kW basic Carrier with 2 zones. BTW The standard Actron warranty is 5 years standard for domestic and 2 years for commercial. Sizing wise it seems OK although to give a proper idea you'd need to show the plans. Don't necessarily be put off about installing post build - you just need to get someone to have a look to see if what you want can be done OK at that time; and post build installs can be cheaper since we only have to go to site once... Ultima's are alot more money due to all the extra bits of kit you need and the amount of time installation and configuration takes, but they are fantastic systems... It would be an expensive upgrade if they havnt. Thanks for all the reply's. I think our price is not to bad considering. Shelby75 & A.Ryder, I think I will get a price for an upgrade to the ESP or ESP Plus. It seems much more efficient than the standard model and hopefully not too much more. Dylan, that price quoted for our system includes the 3 Phase provision, and I was worried about that too, so I got confirmation in writing from the builder to make sure. Cheers. Only thing we have been advised about is to ensure they put the unit in the roof as well, otherwise they have to remove a section of the roof tiles to put it in after the fact, which voids roof warranty.
