Wall air conditioners being phased out?

A neighbour has told me that reverse cycle airconditioners installed in the wall of a house are being phased out?

Is this correct?
and if so, why?
She also said that parts for airconditioners already installed in the wall of a house will become increasingly difficult/impossible to obtain?

I am in South Australia and have a Kelvinator airconditioner installed in the wall of my family room and though it is now probably some 10 years or so old, it has never given me any problems whatsoever and works with complete efficiency. Once it gives up the ghost my inention was to replace it with another wall airconditioner.

Instead of jumping at shadows have you actually verified this person is not toking on a bob marley?
Get the facts from either an industry body or distributor.
Then decide if its worth the worry.

Think you'll find it is just a case of - if the wall mount unit cannot be made to meet the new efficiency standared - then it can't be sold here anymore.

But you'd do better to improve your house design so you need to use it less anyway

You can still buy new units at the Good Guys, etc. and a quick Google search didn't reveal anything concrete on them being phased out.

They are a cheaper option initially but personally I'd spend the extra for a split system which is much quieter and more effective/efficient :-)

Erm, most newer split/inverter systems (with variable speed compressors) are more efficient than ducted air con systems.
My Mitsubishi Heavy Industries systems are 5 star cooling energy efficient, 5.5 heating.

I think your neighbour has been smoking the reefer.

..........I rang Electrolux and also sent them an email to which they have replied. I contacted them as I have had a Kelvinator w/w mounted air conditioner for over 12 years and it has never given me the slightest problems. Just to round off my thread, there are no plans at all to discontinue manufacturing and supply wall/window mounted air conditioners according to Electrolux.

Thank you - good advice for when my w/w mounted system gives up the ghost to look into effective/efficient systems then applying and though a pensioner to focus on putting the pennies together to purchase a more e/e system.

Ah sorry I misunderstood you. I thought by wall you meant inverter/split systems since they are wall mounted. Are you talking about the boxes that you used to sit in an open window?

Best of going for an inverter/split as mentioned above. I can run mine on 18 C on eco and it costs only 4-6c an hour.

Yep the boxes that can be fitted into a window or wall. Thank you for the info, I am keeping all information offered in case my current w/w dies and I need a new air conditioner. Certainly the inverter/split you mentioned is far far more economical than the w/w I currently have!
