Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 13, 2009 8:50 am We are going through the tender for our new house and have the option of having a Daikin Inverter air con installed through the builder for around $13600, but have also had a quote from a Daikin installer and they have recomended a hybrid system for $11,000. Anyone know what the difference is between the two types of system's (running costs / energy consumption / which works better etc)? We have looked at the spec's on Daikin's website, but it wasn't all that helpful, and there was no real information on the hybrid system. Any advice would be appreciated. Nic. Our rep said they're essentially a traditional compressor but I'm still not satisfied with that answer, if I was you, I'd call Daikin head office and ask for customer assistance, surely someone there will know. Pretty sure (!) you'll find the hybrid has a 3 stage compressor and can run at 30%, 70% and 100%. The traditional ones are all or nothing. To the OP, if that's a 20kW system then the hybrid is a cracking deal... dealer price is $2k ish under the inverter and the difference in running costs is such that it's well worth it... Hybrid v inverter, updated; stupid question RE energy rating 5Dec 14, 2009 9:56 am Thanks for the replies... I have just checked the quote from the dealer and it says "1 x Daikin reverse cycle 20kW (8HP) Hybrid three phase ducted air conditioning system". It has 5 zones with 12 grilles. The quote from the builder is for an 18kw inverter with 6 zones. Also, I double checked the amount of the hybrid, and it is actually $11,735 (inc GST), not $11,000 like I thought it was, so it's around $1900 cheaper than the inverter that the builder have quoted on. Ok, so it's time for the stupid question... In terms of energy efficiency, the hybrid one is rated as 3.09 for cooling and 3.60 for heating. The inverter is 3.17 for cooling and 3.55 for heating. Which is better? Is it a case of the higher the energy efficiency rating the better, or the other way around? (See, I said it was a stupid question ). Thanks again! Nic.
