Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 19, 2009 10:09 am I would like to get info from you the consumers on heating and coolling my 2 storey 40 sq house. 4 beds, 2 bath and downstairs large family/meals sep liv, dining and study. I have gone the whole hog and the house in Melb metro has a rating of 6.6 mainly due to double glazing, concrete slab and north facing block. Grd floor 3m ceilings and 2nd floor 2.7. What are my options for heating and cooling this new house. Forget underfloor, not an option for me. What pitfalls should I look for? Re: A/C and heating what are my options? 3Oct 21, 2009 7:12 pm At what stage are you at? Have you allowed for return air duct from ground floor through 2nd storey to heater in roof? Do you have room for the above? Do you have preference of gas ducted over inverter type heating? Do you have natural gas to the site? Is 3 phase available now or would this be an extra cost after the event? How many zones are you looking to have? Types that spring to mind are Gas ducted with add on cooling Gas ducted with Evap cooling Reverse cycle inverter (separate units or ducted) We have just been quoted on an Actron system to provide heat and cooling to our 48sq home with separate zones (8 zones all up) which operate independently from each other. Thus reducing the running costs. Worth seeking out various options via quotes as to where you want to go with this as the cost can vary quite a lot too depending on what type of system you opt for. Hope this points you in the right direction?? Dirk Re: A/C and heating what are my options? 4May 16, 2010 6:04 pm Hi Dirk The home we are designing is of similar size to yours (55sq living) and I was interested to know about the Aktron system you are using. The builder we a looking at the moment is offering evaporative cooling to the top floor only (this is a bottom heavy house with the main bedroom downstairs). Basically we need whole house cooling, so we are deciding if we should 1) take what the builder is offering (ie evap cooling upstairs) - then add on down stairs cooling afterwards 2)Forfeit the builders evaporative system and put in a system like aktron (is it possible to incorporate existing ducted heating into this) 3) Also when we recently went to the home show there was great sounding cooling heating system called the GEN111. Has anyone used this?? Any feedback would be appreciated Ha all, I am now about half way (maybe a bit more) through my build with Carlisle Homes - double-storey knockdown/rebuild project.
