Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 28, 2007 1:35 pm Another questions...
Our house design (through a building company) allows for ceiling and external wall insulation (both generous levels). We are going to install internal wall insulation between some of the rooms for noise reasons (ie-between the family room and a bedroom). Is there any benefit in putting insulation between all interal walls? Thanks Kate Re: Insulation between internal walls 2Jun 28, 2007 3:18 pm Hmm maybe -
If you close the door to a room on a cold night - is the room you closed off colder in side than the others - that have heating going on in them ? Yes ! So with internal wall insulation installed - even less heat goes into this unused room, so the house is that little bit more efficient. And if your putting it in for sound, then you'll get the thermal benefits as a bonus. But to do it just for thermal efficiency - not sure the $$ versus cost savings would stack up. Steve Re: Insulation between internal walls 3Jul 01, 2007 2:00 pm Thanks Steve - we had similar thinking to you, but just wanted someone else's opinion (who knows what they are talking about, rather than just a building company)! In terms of cost vs benefit, it doesn't seem to be worth it to do more than is necessary.
Appreciate your response. Kate Re: Insulation between internal walls 4Jul 06, 2007 8:53 pm It may be worth while checking out a product such as 'noise control batt'
Sealing around the edges & the bottom of the door with one of the 'raven' products would also be worth considering. Sorry, don't know costs, but there are a couple of very important principles you need to get right (and now) .... (1) never agree to any "upgrade" unless you first know… 5 6848 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5410 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7939 |
