Hi, question for anyone knowledgeable about the impacts of the R22 phase out...
I'm looking to pull the trigger on a 15kW Actron ESP Plus.
However, I've just noticed that all of their models under 17kW still use R22 refrigerant. I've spent hours reading up on this and I can't decide if this is a deal breaker, or not? It seems like all the "drop in" replacements all compromise efficiency and potentially reliability.
I called one of the installers I received a quote from about it and he basically just laughed it off. He said it wouldn't be a problem for the next 30 years and that he was sure Actron knew what they were doing. Given my warranty would be running out in 2015, when it's predicted the demand for R22 could well outstrip supply, I'm still somewhat concerned.
It seems like Actron is the only top tier manufacturer still using R22. Given the ban on using new R22 starts in 2 months, I can't understand why they'd still be making these units?
I'll give Actron a call tomorrow and see what they say. I'm not keen on buying a $12K paperweight.
Anyone got any input as to whether I should be concerned?
