Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 03, 2009 8:25 am A question to all of you that currently use a solar HWS with gas boost - do you ever get fluctuating water temps? This morning my shower was going from a nice warm temp to luke warm It was sunny outside at 7:30am so I'm wondering if the Solar bit was trying to do its thing and then the gas would kick in for a few seconds before switching back again - is this normal?? No other taps were running, but the gas ducted heating was on. I've had a look at the manuals and the SHWS doesn't mention water fluctuations and the Gas boost one says to make sure other taps aren't on, which they weren't. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is it normal or should I get it looked at? I will keep an eye on it to see how it goes too 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Yes, and Victoria. It's been fine the last few days since I moved in on Wednesday 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' It's a common problem with continuous flow gas systems, there has to be a certain amount of water pressure coming through the pipes for the Heat element to kick in. Low flow shower heads tend to make the water pressure inconsistent for some reason. You're probably partly right, it was probably sending the water to the collector for heating first, which may explain the extreme difference in the temp, because the water moving around in so many directions is bound to play with the pressure of it running through the system. This is a common problem with some types of continuous flow systems, not just solar, but it does seem to be more obvious with solar. Manufactures are aware of the problem and I know Dux are running though a heap of R & D to fix it. No advice unfortunately, when the whether warms up and you don't need the gas boost, it will be better, but it might be worth trying a couple different types of shower heads. ~W~ Building our forever home - Lilium Estate Clyde - Land due May 2019 Built our first home - Pakenham - 2011 Re: Solar Hot Water System 5Oct 03, 2009 10:04 am We have the same HWS but don't have any issues with temps fluctuating. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the temperature just right to begin with, but that's all to do with plumbing/water pressure. Once you have it how you want it, there's no change unless some so-and-so turns on a tap somewhere else. Which shower head do you have?
