Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 12, 2009 1:41 am Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me if this is fact or fiction. A good friend of mine is in the process of building a timber frame (on stilts) weatherboard clad house and she really wanted a wood fire (with a door on it) and was told because the house is timber frames she cant have one something to do with the would warping or something? Can someone please confirm or not if this is true?? Thanks in advance Nicole Re: Fireplace in timber frame home 2Sep 12, 2009 6:40 am Absolute rubbish If that were true there would be an industry making the things in this country as I would imagine well over 90% of houses are timber framed. You just need to observe the manufactureres specifications of how far they need for reae and side clearances. I have a Nectre Mark 1 which sits 150mm from a gyprock wall coverings timber studs. The Mark 2 can sit 75mm from the rear wall Re: Fireplace in timber frame home 3Sep 12, 2009 10:49 am Old timber framed houses have a masonry chimney pieces and stacks. It's certainly possible to install a fireplace in a stud wall though. Check the BCAs and with the local authority. I know that my gas log fire in the stud wall requires galv steel "0-clearance box" and the double skin flue, with a steel ceiling ring and fireblanket insulation around it in the roof. There's also a requirement for a non-combustible floor covering, like tiles, in front of a wood stove.
