Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 09, 2009 7:38 pm Hi In a previous post I mentioned I declined the builder Evap cooling as I had not done enough investigation. That means whatever I do will be done after handover. What does this really mean? Like, is it a problem to install Evap Cooling/Ducted Gas or RC Ducted after handover? Is there anything I can tap a trademan on the shoulder for during the build? The only thing I can think of is ensuring the roof can support the unit. if I went with the builder they would take caqre of it from day 1. Just a little extra work for the installer after handover right. Thanks Re: Issues to consider when adding Heating/Cooling after Build 2Sep 10, 2009 3:09 pm I don't believe it is a problem as such... just a lot easier for the installer to do during the build. From memory, I think they like doing all the duct work before the plasterboard goes up on the internal roof. I have also declined the basic Bonaire heating/cooling from the builder and elected to organise my own system (Baemar or Brivis? - see another thread). In the paperwork from the builder, it mentions that I am to organise my own heating, etc. post handover. I just spoke earlier today to an A/C business about getting a quote and they confirmed they would prefer to be in doing the install during the build. When the time comes, I will try to negotiate this with the S/S. Re: Issues to consider when adding Heating/Cooling after Build 3Sep 10, 2009 4:54 pm See if the builder will let you at least run the duct work during the build. This is how we did it and then they fit off (install vents and thermostat) after handover. We saved 6K on a ducted heating system (Brivis) with add on ref cooling to 17 outlets. We also had to upgrade our power to 3 phase because of the add on cooling. P.S if you are building double story the duct work will have to be done before plaster.
