Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Seeking info on heating & cooling options for new hse Perth 6Aug 25, 2009 8:31 am depending on where in perth you are building evap might not be the best solution for cooling. We had evap when we lived in Perth and we were happy with it but we lived reasonably close to the coast and our house was orientated on the block to get the best cooling sea breezes. many others in perth dislike evap. We also had soem ceiling fans to assist when it was very humid. We had natural gas heating for winter. This time we are no longer in Perth, rather in the country and we have refrigerative reverse cycle aircon. Ours is a fully electric system. You need to consider the following -availability of natural gas as opposed to bottled. Does where you are building have it? e.g. Yanchep is on bottled gas and so are some parts of suburban Perth. ( bottled is expensive so heating a house this way is very pricey) - are you having gas in the house for anything else? - house orientation -plan of house ( for example because of the size of our main open plan living area heating with gas would have been impractical- too expensive and would have required the biggest heater on the market and then not done the best job anyway.Just re-read your post and noticed you want a ducted system anyway...... - location of house are you close to the coast or inland. Where we are now is inland by 35 kms or so and it gets quite humid so evap wasn't a wise choice for cooling. Hi everyone!
