Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 24, 2009 7:46 am Hi all! We would like to install 2 ceiling fans into our single storey home. We saw Hellers at Good Guys (4 blade with light) for $65. Right on, love that price. They are plain white. To compare, we went for a quick look at Lighting Illusions and saw some lovely fans on display, one that caught our eye was the Martec Lifestyle http://www.martecceilingfans.com.au/dls1341b_product_page. Also 4 blade plus light. But these were more at $175 They are brushed aluminum. The Martecs come with a 3 year in home warranty and they do look a lot nicer than the Hellers. We need 1 with a light and 1 without a light, and at roughly $100 per fan to install it's either a $350 job compared to a $550. So, does it really matter? Would the cheaper ones do just as good? Or should we spend a bit more and get something that looks a lot better. Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. The blade design will determine how much volume of air gets shifted and how much noise the thing makes. You might find that the cheaper models not as effective and therefore may need to be run on higher speed settings - which means more noise. There are a heap to choose from here : http://www.fanshop.com.au/. Needless to say, the guy that runs the shop knows a lot about fans. If he sells it, then it is likely to be a good quality product. We have a number of the Hunter Pacific Concept (which is basically the same as the Martec LifeStyle - I can't remember which one copied the other's design) and they are efficient and whisper quiet, which is great for bedrooms. Hope that helps. I'm pretty sure they are the technical terms buzzzzzzzzzzzz tick tick tick tick Re: Ceiling Fans - does it really matter what brand and the pric 6Aug 24, 2009 5:53 pm We've chosen those fans for our house. Apparently the blades are timber. A blade that big and thick would be bloody heavy if they were solid aluminium. Timber blades will be quieter than metal blades too. The blades are on a good angle too, moves more air at the slower speeds. We are only paying $125 (I think) for our fans, with lights. We decided to get the halogen lights in them so they can be dimmed. The Martec fans are nice, aren't they? The Martec fans are nice, aren't they? hi! $125 is cheap for that fan, would you mind telling me where you are getting them from or is that through the builder? if so, theres probably nothing i can do about that i've decided to get the martec ones, its worth spending a bit extra i think. Re: Ceiling Fans - does it really matter what brand and the pric 8Aug 25, 2009 9:18 am We've always used el cheapo fans - we've had to replace them all once within the last 12 years and I've noticed our current fans have rusting blades (after about ten years of service). I haven't ever noticed them being noisy - no clicking or buzzing (except when they needed replacing). You get what you pay for. In this house they've done the job, but I will be looking for something a bit more rustproof for our new house. Re: Ceiling Fans - does it really matter what brand and the pric 9Aug 25, 2009 6:59 pm I have both maetal and timber bladed fans, I wouldn't say one is quietre than the other Re: Ceiling Fans - does it really matter what brand and the pric 10Aug 25, 2009 10:51 pm aaurora digamma We've chosen those fans for our house. I'm in Cairns, so there probably isn't much you can do about them, but they weren't through the builder. We are using his suggested shop, but it was the regular price. The builder includes standard white metal fans in the price, but we upgraded them to the silver with light at our cost.
