Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 31, 2007 7:06 pm Hi,
Ive just recieved my BASIX variation, and was a little shocked to find the cost of R4.0 insulation batts for my 200sqm single story house. Does $1800 sound reasonable? What would you guys suggest as an alternative? Any insulation companies you would reccomend? Something is not right.
Checking out the prices online (which is different) but can be used to compare differences in the extra costs. CSR batts are as follows. R3.5 Bradford Insulation Batts 580mm $42.99 pack 10 which covers 7.6m2 = ~$5.66 per M2 R4.0 Bradford Insulation Batts 580mm $64.87 pack 10 which covers 7.6m2 = ~ $8.54 per M2 Insulco Fat Batts R3.5 Ceiling Batts 1160x430mm - pack 16 $58.93 each = 9M2 = $6.54 per M2 Insulco Fat Batts R4.0 Ceiling Batts 1160x430mm - pack 10 $34.38 5.6m2 = $6.13 per M2 CSR R3.5 200M2 @ 5.66 per M2 = $1,132 CSR R4.0 200M2 @ $8.54 per M2 = $1,708 INSULCO R3.5 200m2 @ $6.54m2 = $1,308 INSULCO R4.0 200m2 @ $6.13m2 = $1,226 Cheaper!!!! So a maximum difference of $576 in my books. ![]() Plus perhaps a bit of extra truck space as R4.0 will take up a bit more room per pack of 10 while compressed and they are a bit harder to move around due to being bigger pack size, but $1,500 extra No WAY!!!! Check it out at http://buybuildingsupplies.com.au/insulco-fibreglass-fat-batts-c-15_114_900.html Go back and ask why?? I suspect it's a case of - you have to do it - so they have loaded the costs uo because what can you do - Change the hosue desing which will cost more. Challenge them with the above figures and see what they say! I'm a bit happier about that! For a single storey 250 sqm living area they ask. R2.5 to R4.0 upgrade price 2,900 R2.5 to R6.0 upgrade price 5,500 both are way too expensive imo, what's your thoughts? Looking at other posts and costs I was more expecting something like this: R2.5 to R4 upgrade: 600 R2.5 to R6 upgrade: 2,000 Re: R4.0 Insulation Batts 7Jul 09, 2014 7:14 pm ![]() Currently got a quote from a builder. Your expected costs are probably a little on the cheaper side, but close. I paid just over $583 to go from R2.5 to R3.5 with my builder. This is for a 219sqm house. My first builder (that i ended up not going with) wanted to charge me $2400 to go from R2.5 to R3.5. When i advised this was way too much, they just shrugged and said take it or leave it.
