Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 05, 2009 5:20 pm We're in the process of renovating a 1930s unit in Potts Point, Sydney. We plan to have a custom fireplace & false chimney breast using the Ecosmart 650SQ Firebox with the Ecosmart Burner One, as per the design attached, which will also house a niche for a LCD TV and vent for the A/C system above. My concern is to design this unit so that the heat from the Ecosmart doesn't affect the fireplace mantle or the TV. The upper surface inside the 650SQ is angled upwards and away from the burner to direct the heat out of the unit but are there any modifications to the design attached which we should make to ensure the TV doesn't get affected by the heat of the fire? - Should we include forced air imput (i.e. a fan) to the void space of the chimney breast to improve cooling or would the construction of a "chimney" from vents at the base to the upper vents be sufficient? - We are considering having this made from MDF for the fire surround with a marble mantle, marble base and Gyproc (over a frame) for the chimney breast. Are there other materials suggested? One suggestion is a ceiling fan to make air movement near the TV would be more effective than a fan in the fireplace at keeping the TV cool. And a ceiling fan will also move the hot air back down into the room. (they also do a smaller model which is 9.76 Mj/h – 9247 BTU – 2.71 Kw/h) Quote: Also be careful of creating eddies above the mantle piece that draws the heat back towards the tv. Difficult to ensure this without having a wind-tunnel available Quote: One suggestion is a ceiling fan to make air movement near the TV would be more effective than a fan in the fireplace at keeping the TV cool. And a ceiling fan will also move the hot air back down into the room. I'm not sure I agree with this - the TV generates some heat on the surface of the LCD but also has a lot of vents at the back to extract heat from the internal electronics - a ceiling fan would have no impact on the latter. The fan would be used to extract heat from the back of the TV niche and draw in cooler air - similar to a desktop computer fan. Re: Creation of Ethanol fireplace with TV niche above 4Aug 10, 2009 7:55 pm I've now heard from the fireplace manufacturers and they've informed me that the maximum recorded temperature at the top of the Firebox is 44-50 deg C. So I've revised the design to create a baffle between the firebox and the TV to direct the heat upwards to the vent (see below). I've also discovered you can get fire-resistant plasterboard so we'll use that over a steel frame for the chimney breast. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13728 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11586 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3340 |
