Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 25, 2009 11:15 am I am currently building my first home (or shoebox as it is affectionately known as) I am at the moment in a dilemma about what to do with aircon/heating. Since my place is VERY small I have been told not to bother with getting a ducted system as it will cost too much to purchase and run in a small home and that I should go with just getting a couple of split wall mounted systems. This of course is better on my budget (especially with harvey norman doing 42months interest free!!! ) But I want what is best in the long run for the home and its value as a rental property when I do move out in a couple of years. So, I only have a 2 bedroom home approx. 80m2 in living area, my master bedroom would get a system (for a room approx. 16m2) and the living/dining/kitchen space would get one as well (approx. 32m2). Can anyone give me some advice on whether it is better to get the split systems now and keep with them, or put off getting anything for about 6months and then going for a full ducted system? If you know that the size is not going to change then I would put in a ducted system as it is usually more attractive for resale, but it does cost more. However you could always install 85% of it yourself and just get a plumbing electrician to connect up and commission. (about $700) The units you can buy online (ive seen a few that supply installation info, or type in "ducted airconditioning installation" into youtube for a video on how to do it) A unit for your house may be fairly comparable to 3 split systems, but it will require more work to install. The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 12593 retail its around double the price of a similar sized actron/dakin system from memory, They are excellent systems though.
