Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 05, 2009 6:30 pm Hi all, A friend is selling a Mitsubishi split system aircon unit (I think it also heats but we mainly want it for aircon). The model is MSH-GA60VB It is 230V (Volts?) and 50Hz. It has a cooling capacity of 6.3 kW and heating 7 kW. the indoor unit weighs 20kg and there is another number which I wrote down which I am not sure what it means, just says 'cooling 2.24' We are looking to place it in our main living/meals/kitchen area (around 40sqm * 3m ceiling) and hopefully it would flow into the rumpus as well when the double doors are open (around 15sqm). We have ceiling fans to help airflow. So I am wondering 3 things: 1) Is the unit powerful enough for the area we want to cover? 2) Is the price good? my friend wants $1167, it is brand new still in the box 3) How much would I be looking at to have it installed? Who installs aircons? A sparky??? thanks all for any advice "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Who installs aircons? A sparky??? thanks all for any advice We have a similar area to cool and we were advised to get a 8kw unit, so we bought a new fujitsu inverter for around $1800. Fujitsu has an offer on until the end of August for $200 cash back so that brings it down to around $1600. We were told installation is approx $600 and it's done by an air conditioning installer so have a look in the yellow pages. I'm not sure if a normal sparky will do it? I think the price that your friend is asking is pretty good, but the unit may struggle a bit during really hot weather. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I did a bit more research last night after posting this and spoke to my dad, and came to pretty much the same conclusion as you! Have you been to the Fujitsu website? They have a chart there that tells you what sort of kW you would need for the area in sqm that you need to cover, also taking into account whether your ceiling is insulated and what way your windows face. It said we needed 7-8 kW for our area. My dad also said that inverter technology was the way to go, and the one my friend is selling is not inverter. So I'll have to say no to her generous offer. It does sound like a good price; I'd seriously consider it if our area was a bit smaller. Hels where did you find the $200 cash back offer? And can I ask where you bought your 8kW one? I had a quick look online and found a 7.4kW Fujitsu one in a Good Guys catalog for $1899... and at Hardly Normal they are $2499! Thanks in advance Hels also my dad reckons Fujitsu is a good brand ... they have 2 of their aircons. Re: Any advice on this Mitsubishi Aircon unit? 4Jul 06, 2009 10:30 am Hi Donuts I don't know a heap about all your other questions, but in our current house we have a Mitsubishi A/C unit as we were told they were the best brand for a/c. In saying that though I'm sure there are heaps of other good brands and it sounds like your friend's unit didn' meet your needs anyway... We had our a/c installed by a friend for $100! But like Hels said just look up a/c installers in the yellow pages or if you buy it from HN, Good Guys etc they usually have a list of installers for you My karma ran over your dogma Re: Any advice on this Mitsubishi Aircon unit? 5Jul 06, 2009 11:07 am thanks bel! Wow $100 is a good deal!! Is he a sparky or a proper a/c guy? Can he come and do mine? just kidding! ok I'll keep the other Mitsubishi ones in mind too "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Re: Any advice on this Mitsubishi Aircon unit? 6Jul 06, 2009 11:53 am We bought our Fujitsu air cons from The Good Guys, we got 2 as we are also having a smaller unit in the kids bedroom area. (We are not having evap cooling as I don't like it, so this will be it ) The $200 cashback offer is done direct by Fujitsu. You have to fill out a claim form and send off a copy of your receipt and they deposit the money to your bank account or send a cheque. It's $200 per unit to a maximum of $400 so we got the full $400 The offer expires at the end of August so we have only paid a deposit so far as we don't need the units until the house is finished, so we will pay for them before the deadline. I haven't organised an installer yet, I will shop around for one when we're ready to have them fitted. But I think we will be up for $1000 Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: Any advice on this Mitsubishi Aircon unit? 7Jul 10, 2009 10:46 am Hi Donut Mitsubishi has 2 brands – Mitsubishi Electric & Mitsubishi Heavy Industries I am getting quote for aircon at a moment, and many rate Mitsubishi Heavy Industries better than Mitsubishi Electric if you really go for Mitsubishi, properly need to check which one you are getting Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Any advice on this Mitsubishi Aircon unit? 8Jul 10, 2009 12:58 pm So I am wondering 3 things: 1) Is the unit powerful enough for the area we want to cover? This size system will do the 40m2 you have for the main room however will struggle to cool any more than that on a very hot day. 2) Is the price good? my friend wants $1167, it is brand new still in the box Yes that is a good price for that unit which is reverse cycle fixed speed type(not inverter) 3) How much would I be looking at to have it installed? Who installs aircons? A sparky??? For warranty purpose it MUST be installed by a licenced refrigeration/Air cond person. Cost will range from $500 to $1000.00 for installation, my recommendation is to get an installer that also performs the warranty on the unit this will save you many headaches if something goes wrong in the future. Cheers The Air Cond Guy Re: Any advice on this Mitsubishi Aircon unit? 9Jul 10, 2009 9:49 pm thanks everyone for your replies Hels I am going to go to the Good Guys to see if I can get a similar price to yours, it sounds like you got a good deal! thanks claego. this one was a Mitsubishi Electric. And Aircond guy, thank you so much for your professional advice, much appreciated are you in Melbourne perchance? Good luck and let us know how you go And if you find a reasonable installer please let me know as I don't have anyone organised yet And I don't want to pay more than $1000 to install the 2 units.
