Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 03, 2009 4:32 pm Hi there, We're finalising the heating system with our builder. Has anyone heard of or using the Greenheat system from Hydrotherm? http://www.greenheat.com.au/index.html I saw their products in the displayed homes by Devine Homes (I think) in Point Cook back in 2004, and I was really amazed that they can utilize the domestic hot water for warming purpose instead the need for a separate boiler. I love the idea of that. So just want to hear from anyone who's using it or thinking to use it or even have heard comments about their products. Cheers, Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 3Jul 03, 2009 7:20 pm Thanks mek, I wonder why it's not the case here.... hhmm... Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 4Jul 19, 2009 4:33 pm Sorry my post is a little on the late side after yours, I only just found this website. I was just interested to see if you found out any more about Greenheat? I went to a hydronic heating showroom yesterday and when I asked about the panels that are child-friendly, i.e not hot to the touch, they told me that they're not as effective as a panel that's warmer to the touch because they're not radiating as much heat - obviously. Now, whereas the panels I saw yesterday are cooler to the touch because they have a protective covering over them, I'm presuming that the Greenheat panels will be cooler to the touch because the temperature of the water going through them can only be as hot as you want the water coming through your taps to be. This is the only problem I can see with Greenheat - it's not going to be as responsive/effective as it would be if you had a separate boiler for your hydronic heating. Can you or anyone else shed any more light on this?! Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 5Jul 20, 2009 12:14 pm Thanks to your reply Daniels. Well, even with seperate boiler, the temperature will only be at max 65 degree i assume? Which is the same as Greenheat system anyway. I guess it only means it takes a bit longer than other systems to heat up the whole room. But I've waited for more than two weeks for my quote to come back (they said it'd only take one week for a quote), and I even called them up to hurry up the quote. Nothing is happening still. If their customer service is like this...then...I'm not sure if I still want to pay them so much to build their system. Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 6Jul 20, 2009 3:00 pm Hi again, the boiler I saw heats to a choice of 45 or 85 degrees so I presume it would be set to the latter. I guess this is the difference between the two systems - a separate boiler will heat your rooms more quickly that Greenheat. It's a shame they're keeping you waiting for a quote, there are plenty of Hydronic Heating specialists keen for business out there. Good luck, let us know what you decide to go with! Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 7Aug 13, 2009 4:58 pm I know this may be a little late for you, but we were considering greenheat, but then went with Branco Boilers (located in Albury but servicing a much wider region) instead as they use separate pipes to the domestic hot water (so one set at tap temperature, the other at 70 degrees or so), which seems a little more hygienic. They also use the one boiler for both. We've been pretty happy with their service, and the heating works wonderfully. Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 8Aug 13, 2009 11:09 pm Thanks to Daniels and F&E. oh well, i have to give up this system coz it costs so much to set it up. and as many have said before, the best way to conserve energy is not to use it at all. so we'll have one gas space heater in the living area, and that's it. put on more clothes will do the wonders and help the earth. that's what we had in our old house, and we did well in the past 6 years. Melbourne isn't that cold anyway. we're still young, so we can live without the comfort heat. i grew up with no heaters at all until i came to Melbourne at the age of 20. I'll let this luxury item wait a bit more until I really need heaters everywhere in the house. Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 9Aug 14, 2009 11:42 am Having grown up in Europe with heating panels the normal way of heating, I can only say that my kids getting burned by them is not very high on my worry list. My eldest was born there and he automatically stayed clear when they were blazing hot. I have never heard of anyone getting burned by them either. Hi F&E I am thinking of building another house and looking at radiator heating next time (this is what we used to have in the UK) Have you got any pictures of yours and is it alot more expensive than ducted gas heating and what about to run do you find it expensive? I havnt looked into it yet as its early days about building, but its something I would consider. I find ducted heating isnt balanced perfectly and its dusty and you can hear it fire up if you leave the heating of at night. Where as the radiator heating is so quiet and clean, the only draw backs I see are that you loose some wall space or you have to have shorter windows and place the radiator underneath. Be interesting to see how your getting on with it, also was there many companies around here that you got quotes off or did you just stick to the one? Sorry for all the questions Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 11Aug 17, 2009 4:18 am just had a quick read of their site, unfortunatly they dont support inslab heating because of the lower temperature however you can hook the solar up to it as a pre heat too! might get some quotes, just dont think the radiators would be enough for large 25sqm areas like a family room for instance. -Nathan 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Has anyone heard of/using Greenheat hydronic system? 12Aug 17, 2009 11:58 am FireFox ( however you can hook the solar up to it as a pre heat too! I have done some calculations on the amount of winter sun energy you can collect from solar panels to drive a hydronic system. It isn't a lot. A 30 tube evacuated tube system may give you about 90L of 60C of hot water a day (saving you 40c/day in off peak electricity bills during winter) . This is not enough for your hot water needs let alone a hydronic system. There is nothing magical about solar systems. They need the sun. Winter = No sun. No free lunches. All your big wins come during the warmer months. But you don't need home heating then! You can intuit the heating capacity of a solar HWS. In a passive solar design you need about 1/6 of the internal floor area to be lit up by sun to keep it adequately warm. But a typical solar HWS has a collector surface area of no more than 3m2 and it can only convert a maximum of 80% of this sun energy into heat. It would be far more efficient just to put a window in a wall to let the sun fall directly onto the floor and heat that 3m2 area. Maybe I was unlucky but my system started corroding and filled the pipework and filters with black flakes. Hydrotherm flushed it twice and tried to charge me, now they don't want to know me. I've had to install a separate drinking water supply. I'm now in the process of separating the two systems and installing a hydronic boiler so I can drink the domestic hot water and dose the hydronic system. Absolute nightmare!! Currently renovating, and our main lounge is 5m x 10m, with a cathedral roof peaking at 6.5m high. Currently have tiles on concrete slab. Room is very hard to heat. I am… 0 3531 Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hydronic in slab heating speacialist who may be able to help me with an existing system and wether or not it may need a seperator… 0 3449 0 884 |
