Re: Are you getting a solar hot water system? 2May 18, 2009 9:32 pm I had a choice of solar hot water or a water tank. I figured getting the tank myself would be cheaper for me, so I opted for the builder to put in a solar hot water system. If it wasn't part of the deal, I may have gone with the Rhinnai system... had it in canberra and love it. We currently have a continuous gas HWS which costs a fortune to run so we are hoping that the solar is more cost effective. We didn't think there was any rebate but we still get the recs credit, about $1000 we have been told. Waiting for it now! We didn't think there was any rebate but we still get the recs credit, about $1000 we have been told. Waiting for it now! Sonya Was yours a new house, or a reno? We got nothing back on our gas-boosted unit, although the builder supposedly deducted the REC credit from the price we were charged. Yeah, how would you know? I like it - we never run out of hot water, and it's a little cheaper to run than an instant gas unit. We're lucky to have a large expanse of north-facing roof on one side, so our panels work pretty well, judging by the gas bills so far. Re: Are you getting a solar hot water system? 6May 18, 2009 10:23 pm Ours was a new house, the builder told us they had not claimed the rebate and we could if we wanted! Re: Are you getting a solar hot water system? 8May 19, 2009 10:42 am We did a lot of research and paid a little more to go for the Hills unit. This incorporates evacuated tube technology, it's about the best out there in terms of getting highest efficiency conversion. Our block is perfectly north facing also. Our house is two storey so its goes up on the second storey roof. http://www.enviro-friendly.com/evacuate ... ater.shtml DanC Re: Are you getting a solar hot water system? 10May 19, 2009 12:29 pm Focus06 We get a solar hot water service with Gas booster as a standard inclusion. +1 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Said he went to one house where the unit had been for 4 years only to discover it hadn't been commissioned as per the installation instructions at the time of installation, and the owners had been using just the gas the whole time! Our builder, Meletis Homes, said they didn't know they had to be commissioned but damn straight will be paying our bill for the Rheem guy accordingly... Re: Are you getting a solar hot water system? 13May 19, 2009 11:38 pm We will have electric-boosted solar HWS - it was part of the BASIX requirement. We also have a nice big piece of north-facing upstairs roof. I don't fancy getting up there to clean the panels in a couple of years. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers.
