Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 13, 2009 9:14 pm I have just had a braemar heating unit TH330 NG unit installed and am finding too powerful and too hot. Does anyone have any suggestions as we cant even turn it on. We have been told there is only one fan speed, and can not slow the speed of hot air coming out of the ducts. If i close some of the ducts, it sounds like the roof may lift off. We would appreciate any advice and hope we have not been given an inferioer unit. I have found from the braemer site that TH3 series is a 3 star, and a TH 4 is 4 star and TH5 is 5 star. Phil in Melbourne Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 2May 19, 2009 7:20 pm I know you posted this ages ago so you have likely found an answer by now?! I am actually looking into getting a Braemar unit - one of the 4 star ones I think - so your post is useful as I was tossing up between the 3 and 4 star model! The guy I have been speaking to advised me that the series 3 only have 1 fan speed, as you are obviously discovering and the advantage of going for the 4 star is that it has variable fan speed as well as cutting down the power by 50% once the desired temp is achieved. I would let to get more info from you RE general experience of the unit - apart from the obvious issue with the fan. I am also curious about $$$. I have just been quoted over $5500! Mucked the first post The TH3 fan spped can be altered at the heater but not by controller also sounds like the unit is to big and installer has not commsioned it. The TH4 heater is the best value for money but $5500 sounds like alot what size have they quoted you on and how outlets and zones? If you like i could price you on this unit Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 5May 29, 2009 3:28 pm Sorry Brad75 - only just saw your reply! Have just received another quote for a thousand less!! The original quote was inclusive of zoning and 50ml ducting which another dealer has assured me is not necessary with gas heating. Also the higher quote inlcuded 5 year warranty compared to standard 3 year - model quoted at $4600 including zoning (which we are actually not going to get at this stage as we are planning a reno and will need to rezone then anyway) is a TH420 with 5 outlets (only a 2 br house). Does that sound about right...can give you more specific specs. Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 6May 29, 2009 5:22 pm Give us more specs but a braemar TH420 to 5 outlets is to big you need the braemar TH315 unless you a going the bigger heater for future reno that will be ok but TH420 to 5 outlets should be around $3,300.00 Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 7May 29, 2009 6:03 pm Well we did particularly want the 4 star cos of the additional efficiency - some extra functionality with fan speed etc as well as planning for an extension in the next few months. Quote is for $3900 or $4600 with zoning which we think we will leave for now and add when we extend. The following is cut directly from the quote and includes 25ml ducting (I think I mentioned that - could have 50ml for only $150 or so more but the guy I have been speaking to doesn't think it's necessary with heating). Nominal heating capacity: 20 KW Nominal air flow 640 litres per second Your gas unit has the following features: • Single point ignition with no pilot light required • 3 year parts and labour warranty for your peace of mind. • 10 year parts warranty on heat exchanger. • Softair fan system to maintain perfect balance between air and burner output • Ecostar Tri- action heat exchanger for maximum energy efficiency. • Induced draft combustion flue to increase energy savings • Easy to use Spectrolink programmable controller for ease of operation The system we have designed has five (5) ceiling mounted multi directional outlet white in colour. We will install the ceiling mounted return air grille in the passage. Hope this makes sense - I think the quote is about right based on what you said plus GST...and this quote is from the company that installed our evap cooling 4 years ago. Also got a quote from another mob for about $1000 more (probably already told you that?!)! Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 8Jun 09, 2009 8:34 pm Still seems dear are you in Melb because in Melb prices are around TH420 5 points for $3,300 also i recommend you get the return air intake down to ground level or else you are wasting your time unless you prefer all the heat at the ceiling most companys put them in the ceiling because it is easier but we won't put them in the ceiling unless the customer signs a form saying that's where they want it so they have no come back when they say the unit does'nt heat the house probaly hope this helps you . Wish i could get that sort of price every day i would be making $2,000.00 profit for half a days work at the price. Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 9Jun 20, 2009 2:28 pm Thanks for the advice - the unit is actually being installed on Monday and I will talk to them about the return air vent. I do remember the guy from the company we are going with telling me it would be close to the ceiling and of course, I didn't contradict him as I was none the wiser so that is useful info and I will definately be making sure they put it low to the ground - not sure where would be the best spot though cos of the configuration of our house? At this stage they were going to put it in the hallway at the rear of the house above the back door - central hallway (with rooms off to each side, typical bungalow style) - where would you recommend baring in mind that because of the location of the door (ie right in the centre with not much room either side, maybe 10cm after the door frame) there is really nowhere to locate it close to the ground? Maybe just above the door rather than towards the ceiling?? Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 11Jun 21, 2009 8:53 am No I'm in Adelaide and I agree it is a lot of money!!! But, after having done my homework (including getting other quotes) I think the price is about what it is costing here - Origin were advertising one of the 3 star units from $3099. We have actually now upgraded to the TH425 to allow for an extension in the next year. RE the return air vent, do you mean put in inside a wardrobe and then facing into the hall? We do have a robe in one of the front bedroom but does it take up much room cos I wouldn't want to lose space in the wardrobe. If we did that, it would be near the front door - would that be a good place for it? Not really any other option in our house but if our plans to extend go ahead, it may be that we move the return air vent to an open plan living area at the back of the house. Re: Braemar unit TH330 installed but too hot and strong 12Aug 17, 2009 6:17 pm Hi Brad75, I just leased a house in Melbourne and think it has installed the TH330 system. The fun is too strong and the air is really hot. I called the property manager and they said they would send the plumber. How can the fan/heat be controlled in this units? Do you think a plumber can do the job or should the landlord call the dealer? I'd appreciate any advice!
