Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 03, 2009 10:16 pm Hi there, We are considering getting hydronic underfloor heating and we live 7km from Sydney city, do tou think it is worth while? We were probably going to get a gas heated one. I am not all that keen on polished concrete or tiles, and the original part of the house has flooroards, so was going to go for floorboards. Might need to get engineered ones, to reduce the air gap and possibility of the timber warping. Any thoughts? Would we also need to get anther type of heating, like a gas fan forced heater to boost in winter, or heat up quickly? Love to know your thoughts and experiences. f DA approved April 09, trying to put together specs for builders tender now. Re: Is it worth getting Hydronic underfllor heating in Sydney? 2May 03, 2009 10:27 pm Hi, This is such a subjective thing. I really feel the cold but hubby and the kids don't. Even though I feel the cold in winter I wouldn't bother, especially in Sydney, but if it's something you really want and can afford to do then go for it Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Is it worth getting Hydronic underfllor heating in Sydney? 3May 03, 2009 10:29 pm I'm in Sydney and my house will have in-slab hydronic heating. The twist is that I'm using solar hot water panels to provide the heat and only these panels. If we get a few rainy days in a row in winter then the house will cool down and we put on a jumper. I expect this to happen only once or twice a year. As far as flooring goes, you can have whatever you want (except very thick carpet or timber on battens). I've got mine going under carpet and under floorboards (either 12 mm ply + 12 mm timber or underlay + 15 mm engineered flooring). I'm looking forward to it.
