Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 30, 2009 4:45 pm hi guys just recieved our tender and everything seems reasonable except for the cost of relocating the hot water service to the other side of the house. we have been charged just under $600 for this and there reasoning is that it is to upgrade the gas lines to run to the new position. does this sound reasonable or are they just trying to rip me off? i have queried this cost to my admin but they won't budge on it. any advice cheers Re: Cost of Relocating HWS 2Apr 30, 2009 4:47 pm even if they are ripping you off their not budging so you dont have a choice but accept it and move on stay safe happy building Re: Cost of Relocating HWS 3Apr 30, 2009 5:06 pm I repositioned ours from one side of the house to the other and placed it appox 10 metres further along the length of the house than it was in the original position. Cost was $350. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Cost of Relocating HWS 5Apr 30, 2009 5:58 pm Our SS advised us as the frame was going up our hot water service would need to be relocated. We have not been informed of any charge for this as it was going to be easier for the builders. Hope we don't get a surprise bill at the end. Re: Cost of Relocating HWS 6Apr 30, 2009 8:01 pm We relocated our electric/solar hot water tank only a couple of metres around the corner so it wasn't blocking the side passage - there was no charge. Possibly because the original standard location was patently stupid. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers. Re: Cost of Relocating HWS 7Apr 30, 2009 8:01 pm If you change something after all the plans have been finalised they charge you a admin fee, a lot of builders charge around $300.00. if they have asked the plumber for a price for the HW to be on the other side of the house & he would only charge extra if they have to run the gas & water over to that side of the house & everything is on the other side. look at your plans to see where the other gas items are located & your bathroom & kitchen. if it's the same side as everything else they are charging that amount hoping you will forget about. They told you they have to upgrade the gas lines well that only happens when your have more items to run to or more higher gas consumption items. Either way you don't have much choice. 7 11931 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37085 Fair Trading can issue orders to rectify and complete but once the matter goes to NCAT these orders are automatically vacated.
