Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 27, 2009 4:54 pm Hi All, I'm after your thoughts on using one of these Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ To heat underfloor hydronic pipes. I realize i would need to install a header tank with a pressure release valve, but can anyone see any other things I need to be careful of? I was thinking this would capture a fair bit of the extra heat energy that would otherwise head straight up the flue.... Or am i dreaming Thanks in advance. Ant Re: Home grown hydronic Idea 4May 14, 2009 9:25 pm I'm buying a house in Tassie that had oil fired hydronic heating. Too expensive to use now and gas isn't available in the area yet, so I have been thinking of a thermal mass storage, using a well insulated masonry furnace that would only run flat out for a few hours a day. The idea would be to get it to temperature with an efficient fire, and then seal it up, while the heat transferred to the boiler tubes embedded in the masonry. Any thoughts? The only problems I could see with the flue jacket would be the heat transfer becoming less effective with carbon deposits. May have to clean the flue a bit more often. Re: Home grown hydronic Idea 5Jun 28, 2009 3:26 pm antsv8 i find that rather interesting, where about did you get that price from? i am sure a manifold like that could be easily made and it shouldn't cost that much! 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Home grown hydronic Idea 6Jun 29, 2009 11:35 am I Cant remember the exact place I found the price, It is 304 Stainless steel so I guess thats where the price gets a slight kick in the pants. I have been thinking of a few other methods of extracting this heat and pumping it to other places in the house... Car radiators are cheap and using the correct piping i think I may just be able to soak up a lot more of the available heat.... Off to a engineer I go...
