It is usually called stringing in. Sometimes the installer does the edge first because that it is the hardest to access once the gyprock goes on. dymo is right in my experience. My independent inspector picked up at pre-plaster stage that the insulation around the perimeter (in between the last noggin and the end where it meets the roof) should have been installed before the plaster went on, as it would be too hard to get in those corners after the ceiling was on. This was ignored by my builder. Sure enough at handover the same inspector picked up that the insulation didn't go all the way to the edges!! The insulation guys just came back yesterday to fill in the gaps as part of our 3 month maintenance. One of them said that at 'insulation school' they got told to leave the edges, for ventilation for the house.
