Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 08, 2009 9:49 am Hi guys What are the pros and cons of each? Does anyone know and is happy to share? Which one did you get/will you be getting? Re: Slimline Vs standard air con vents 2Apr 24, 2009 8:40 am Re: Slimline Vs standard air con vents 3Jun 08, 2009 4:04 pm Hard to tell from the picture, but around the ceilings looks like a fancy cornice, like shadowline or something. I think standard vents work best. They are usually adjustable which helps if the air accidentally blows straight on you, with is really annoying if you are trying to sleep. Slimiline vents can limit the air that comes out a little. You also get less control in regards to the airflow direction. We usually only use them in bulkheads or if there is no way to use a ceiling vent (e.g. on the bottom storey of a home). Thanks for that Our house will be a two storey, does that mean we have to have the slimline vents on the ground floor, or not necessarily? Re: Slimline Vs standard air con vents 5Jun 09, 2009 10:21 pm Usually if there is no roof space above, you cannot have ceiling grilles. Usually in downstairs areas you have a dropped ceiling with aluminium wall grilles that sit in the bulkhead and blow horizontally. If the dropped ceiling is low enough, you can fit some ceiling grilles in however. Your air conditioning contractor should design it up. Usually you have little choice in what grilles go downstairs. It is usually a case of installing whatever fits. The best thing to do (for everyone building) is to get air conditioning quotes as early on into the building process as possible (even during design stage is great!). Thanks for that The good thing is that we haven't actually started building yet. I've got heaps of air con quotes but noone mentioned anything about the possible limitations of two storey houses :S So what can we do in order to minimise the costs of air con installation later on? Re: Slimline Vs standard air con vents 7Jun 10, 2009 12:15 pm Your air conditioning contractor should allow for certain size slab penetrations to get the ducting downstairs. It is essential that these are allowed for in the building process. The aircon contractor should also advise where to locate dropped ceilings and bulkheads. Allow for these in planning stage as they cost a lot more to add on once drafting is finished. Also allow for a power supply to the outdoor units location. The builder should run this power rather than paying for the air con contractor to run it (the ac contractor would charge you more for running it). I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known. Rylock is a good company, Stegbar is for sale. 4 16326 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 6058 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house. Does this placement sound reasonable to you? Also, I plan to have 6 zones I think. Living room… 0 0 |
