Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 17, 2009 8:37 pm Our standard insulation inclusion is for the living area only, ie, it excludes garage and patio areas. I'd like for it all to be insulated.
Firstly, is this going to be a waste of money to have it all insulated? And secondly, the salesperson, who seems knowledgeable enough, said it would be better to go with Anticon instead of ceiling batts if I wanted it all done. Is this going to be better? Having looked into it a bit, it seems like anticon will be ok, but the heat that makes it into the roof cavity is going to then come through the ceiling like there is no insulation. I know anticon should keep lots of heat out, but it doesn't seem like it could be better. The roof is colorbond and will be Deep Ocean (A very dark blue) and I live in Cairns. Re: Anticon vs ceiling batts? 2Mar 17, 2009 9:14 pm patio is a waste. Garage it depends on which way it is facing. My garage is facing east and west (i have two roller doors) therefore the week spot for heat will be the doors ie morning and afternoon sun. Insulation will not help.
Anticon is good for colorbond roof to minimise the sound effect from rain if thats what you want. I too agree with your analysis. I think batts are most important. I would just put foil sarking in the roof for a moisture barrier, and forget about the aniticon. Re: Anticon vs ceiling batts? 3Mar 17, 2009 9:23 pm The garage is facing roughly north/NNE. I guess the patio is a waste, but I do spend a lot of time in the garage, either working on projects in wood or over/under the cars. I do want it done. As for a vapour barrier, is it really needed? I'm requesting 2 whirly-gigs for roof ventilation to keep the roof cooler. And I definitely don't want to dampen the sound of the rain, it's nice, despite spending months raining up here.
