Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 10, 2009 10:38 pm We found out yesterday that the Evap cooler that comes as a standard inclusion is the Bonaire Summerbreeze. I was disappointed as we have had Bonaire before (years ago) and found it quite noisy, seems they haven;t gotten any quieter either as our next door neighbour who has just built and moved in has got one...
Our SC also advised that due to the size of out home that it would be more than likely that we would have to have 2 small units instead of the one large one So off l go to the aircon place to check it out. And yup, we have to have 2 small units ....I don't want 2 small units goddammit!! especially at the additional cost of $2500-$3000 l don't get it?....Now l know l have a largeish home but on all the big homes l see around the place they only have one unit....l've only seen two houses and they were BIG! that had the 2 units...l don't class my home in that category, but then again l've only seen my house on a floorplan, lol... So I thought l would investigate whether other manufacturers (Brivis, Breezair etc) make larger units that would indeed more than adequately cool our home. I've submitted my floorplan yesterday and today to 2 other aircon places (one does Brivis, the other does Brivis, Breezair & Braemar) and am waiting on the quotes to come back, which will be later in the week....arrgghhh, l hate waiting! so wanting to know what l can get, like yesterday, lol thought l would pose the question here... Is there anyone here that may be able to tell me which evap system will be the most suitable for my house? and what cost it would be roughly? The credit the builder will give me if l do my aircon elsewhere is $3900, so if l stay with them and get the two units l'm up for $7000...But if l can get one unit at the same or perhaps cheaper price (l may be dreaming here) then l'll pull the cooling out of the contract and do it after handover... Ceiling height is 2550m and living is 29.83sq. Geez, thanks all for your responses! (j/k)
For the benefit of OP who may find themselves in a similar situation in the future, the matter of 2 small units vs 1 large unit has been resolved. I got one of my quotes back today and whoo-hoo! l'm one happy chick indeed. I was quoted a Breezair EXH210 for $5670 fully installed! I rang the guy just to make absolutely sure it was just one unit (l got the quote via quick email message) and told him about the 2 unit thing with the other mob. I asked several questions to confirm that this Breezair unit will more than adequately do the job. Apparently we would've been right with the 190 model, but he upped to the 210 model to ensure the unit did it's job and did it well. I'm so chuffed, not just because we've saved ourselves $1300 dollars, but from reading on the forum and around the net, it appears that Breezair is more superior to the Bonaire....Better quality for less money....gotta be happy with that! So I rang the builder and told them that l did not want to go with their supplier and that l wanted to add the Breezair onto the contract....Now l totally forgot that they don't let you add stuff from anyone else but their own contracted suppliers to the contract, so when she reminded of this my joy to turned to disappointment in a flash We need the cooling in the contract for loan purposes and l told her that, she said she would ask the boss but it was very unlikely that he would agree. Not willing to give up, l asked if they could at least put a provision/allowance for it in the contract. Again she said all she could do was ask but didn't seem confident that the boss would agree. Five minutes later she calls me back and tells me that the boss has agreed to put it in the contract, but this was a once off thing and nothing else from other suppliers can be added. In a flash my disappointment turned back into joy again *yay*.. I think what may have swayed them was the fact that we have upgraded and added a sh*tload of things already (they are gonna make a very tidy profit from us l'm sure!) and seeing that their supplier did not make a unit big enough to adequately cool our home due to the size it has grown to, lol, we only went elsewhere out of necessity and not from an "oh l don't like that unit, l want something else" mindset. Yet again, doing your research, shopping around and being persistant really does pays off! Re: Which Evap Cooling unit is big enough to cool my home? 3Feb 18, 2009 8:00 pm hey thorney
