Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 30, 2009 9:51 pm Gday,
We are getting ducted heating put through our home as part of our build, but this current heat wave has made me think a little.... Is it possible to ADD a cooling system to the heating after it is all finished? We were thinking of doing this down the track....is it as simple as putting a unit outside, or is there a lot more structual work needed? Thanks. Need to check if comnpatable. You may want to have it zoned straght away as most cooling systems arent big enough to do whole house.
If you have large house you may wish to get three phase, so you can get a bigger unit. Re: Air-con question.... 3Jan 30, 2009 9:57 pm Ok. We are getting a 4-star heating unit installed and the house isnt very big (17 square). The problem is that we have already signed contract and are starting next week.... The question is how big of an aircond do you want to go for??? I dont think you need three phase. I would think 12-15Kwatt would be heaps. Need to look at the plan and work out how you want the system to work. Basically you have too figures to work with 125 watts per square meter for living areas 80 watts per square meter for bedroom there for if you living area is 70 square meters then you need 70 X125=8750watts. = 8.75 kwatts. Work out your floor area and zones then you can work out what size you need. Divide your house into two zones first namely Bedrooms and Living. Re: Air-con question.... 5Feb 01, 2009 10:04 am Borg,
Thanks heaps for all the advice. Will see how we go. Actually the proper way to do it as specified by AIRAH (Australian Institute of Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heating) is to do a cooling load calculation for the house. This is based on several factors: climate, area to be conditioned, house construction, orientation, glazing proportions, levels of insulation and shading. The good companies will do a proper calc, the ******* ones will do a rough estimation and probably sell you a unit that is bigger than your needs. Re: Air-con question.... 7Feb 01, 2009 3:25 pm Hey dynamite. I agree with your statement, and those calculations dont take into account all the finer details.
However it is just an estimate. Also at the end of the day it comes down to what performance you expect and how quickly you want your house to cool down. I know many people on this forum would prefer to go for bigger units just to improve the performance for days like we had last year, and to be quite honest most aircond unit are not big enough for the houses of today anyway. To cool whole house in one go is very difficult to design for. Re: Air-con question.... 8Feb 01, 2009 8:10 pm Get 3 phase power anyway it only cost's extra for the cable the meter install is all the same is a good selling point for the future as well. Re: Air-con question.... 9Feb 20, 2009 12:18 am The biggest challenge is finding what areas of a house the client thinks they will run at once. This ultimately determines the size of your air conditioner. 0 6304 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5947 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house. Does this placement sound reasonable to you? Also, I plan to have 6 zones I think. Living room… 0 0 |
