Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Anyone have a HRV System or Sunlizard System? 22Oct 06, 2011 9:56 pm Hi, I installed a Solamate early this year and in short I'm very happy with it. My house details - late 1920's circa 100sqm home in metropolitan Sydney, mix of double brick, brick veneer and weatherboard, renovated to include insulation in the roof, walls and floor. Single glazed glass, thermal curtains on some windows, blinds with clear comfort on others. I would consider it to be well insulated with a moderate amount of thermal mass. We installed two panels, one on a north east facing roof, the other on a north west facing roof. We installed two as our roof area is partly shade compromised. We've not needed any heating beyond the solamate since the beginning of August and have seen internal temperatures consistently remain between 18 and 24 degrees. I didn't consider a HRV system as I had concerns over bringing air into the house from a very dirty roof cavity. Happy to provide more details if needed. Andrew Re: Anyone have a HRV System or Sunlizard System? 23Oct 07, 2011 7:56 am We have a new house with HRV, double glazing to all windows, colourbond roof with sarking. We don't have curtains yet. There's no condensation - all windows closed at night. HRV system has filters that clean the air to hospital standards - have to be changed every 18 months. I don't have asthma here. We have 450mm eaves all round and 7 windows to the north. HRV can be heard but not over the TV whereas central heating is noticeable. We haven't had a summer here yet. Re: Anyone have a HRV System or Sunlizard System? 24Nov 21, 2011 9:13 pm Have you guys heard of Venmar brand? I had a good email from an energy-efficient building consultant who explained to me a bit about them. http://www.healthyhouse.com/products_avs.html These don't seem to draw air from the ceiling space, even though the unit can be mounted there. He basically told me they'd be about $10k fully installed in a typical 4-bedroom place with 6 inlets and 3 outlets. These can be integrated with other ducting too which sounds perfect for my new build. I'm thinking of getting this because we'll be building in a cold part of Tas and want a very high energy rating home, ideally 7 or 8-star+ so it'll be heavily insulated: R6 in ceilings R3 in walls and underfloor Polished concrete with dark tint in solar gain areas Huge amount of double-glazed argon filled glass on the North face High performance seals (something like the Proctor Group ones) All that amounts to very air-tight living space and the HRV will solve the issues with condensation. Also apparently it can control humidity by adjusting the mixture of stale to fresh air! Really looking forward to learning more. Re: Anyone have a HRV System or Sunlizard System? 25Feb 21, 2012 6:24 pm Hi We have recently experienced the 'quotation' process of selling from HRV and are really unsure of what to do. We are already doing as much we can to be sustainable - great orientation, double glazed argon filled UPVC windows, ceiling fans everywhere, polished concrete floors, block out curtains and blinds and so on. I have some doubts that the HRV system will achieve much more than we have already, and on the days we do need extra then it would come down to a separate unit anyway. planfan I am very interested to hear how your HRV has coped with the summer. Thanks Re: Anyone have a HRV System or Sunlizard System? 26Jul 11, 2012 12:10 pm greenfish planfan I am very interested to hear how your HRV has coped with the summer. I would like to hear more about it as well. Cheers Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
