Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Insulation in existing house 26Jan 27, 2009 11:30 am No I meant back in Germany I did not have to switch the heater on in temperatures compared to a Melbourne winter. And these buildings are not 10 stars either. Ok, double glass is standard since donkeys years.... That's why I am thinking it should be possible to achieve in a Melbourne house with minor changes...
Anyway, put R1.5 ceiling insulation in at a friends (back than end 2007 I did not know R3.5 is required, and she is a bit tight anyway) and it made a difference already. And its so easy to do..... About 600$ for the whole ceiling space. So I think R3,5 bulk on the ceiling and reflective foil under the roof beams shall get you somewhere. But still, the veneer thing remains unsolved. got a mail from cosywrap: "The idea is to actually disconnect the external thermal mass form the inside of the home. We fill the entire gap with cavity wall rockwool, so that there is no transfer from the hot external brick into the house in summer. " Guess he is right, not much one can do... 1 19708 4 11183 I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 29740 |
