I have an old-ish (9 years) Brivis evap system that works beautifully and has never given me a days trouble...BUT...it has an auto dump mechanism (excuse if this is not the correct technical name). i.e. it fills with water and when it's turned off it automatically dumps it. Waste! At the time I am not sure that I was given an alternative but I remember the builder saying something about it being healthier to use fresh water each time the unit is turned on. Probably correct but in this day and age I really hate and loathe the thought of this wasted resource. God knows how many litres go down the drain every time the unit is switched off. It's got to a point where I am reluctant to turn it on unless it's 35C and this is making me very unpopular at home Can I retro fit a 'dump valve' (?) so that I only have to empty the cooler at the end of Summer? Failing that, I was thinking about installing a Rain Diverter since the water seems to be expelled via one particular down pipe; at least this water can go to the garden this way. Thoughts? Re: How to make my air con more enviro friendly? 2Jan 23, 2009 10:30 pm The person who said it is safer to dump the water is right!!!
Large buildings and offices reuse the water and thats why we have leginairs (spelling??) outbrakes all the time. Using clean water every time doesnt give bacteria enough time to grow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hence safer option. Re: How to make my air con more enviro friendly? 3Jan 24, 2009 12:23 am Rather than useing arain water divertor - you should be able to get someone to move the pipe and make it run down the wall so you can direct the water to wherever youdesire.
As per above if it's designed to dump it - there is a reason. Good that you do want to not want to waste the water Steve Re: How to make my air con more enviro friendly? 4Jan 24, 2009 9:07 am borg Large buildings and offices reuse the water and thats why we have leginairs (spelling??) outbrakes all the time. Legionnaire's disease after the American Legion outbreak in 1976. This gives a little history about the event: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legionellosis You can also catch it from potting mix. According to the Victorian govt, there have been no cases noted in domestic air con use. I wouldn't say 'all the time'. There are codes regulating the use and maintenance of cooling towers. Re: How to make my air con more enviro friendly? 5Jan 24, 2009 2:05 pm Oh drats. I was hoping I could do something about this and solve the water Victorian water crisis in one fell swoop
Well I guess back to plan B and install a rain Water Diverta (bought today at Bunnings for $21 ). Thanks for the info! How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5929 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
