Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 20, 2009 12:16 pm Hi All,
We have a quote for a LG Single Phase Inverter system - 16kw cooling capacity & 17.6kw heating capacity - 4 zones, 13 outlets. We also, in our electrical plans have the power being upgraded to 3 phase. The total cost is about $13k. My questions are: 1. Does this cost sound reasonable to those that know? 2. Is this system any good? 3. I have read here that 3 phase seems to be the best option, so can anyone suggest a unit that would run on 3 phase, and should we change to a 3 phase unit. Thanks for all your help in advance. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 2Jan 20, 2009 12:44 pm This cost seems to be very reasonable, I have paid $11k for a single phase 14.5kw Panasonic Inverter unit with 8 zones.
Check out http://www.aussieairconditioning.com.au ... &panasonic Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 3Jan 20, 2009 1:39 pm First of all we need to see your house plans. Given that you only have 13 outlets i would be thinking about 30square house.
I would first consider what are you most likely to be using more. If you plan on using heating more you should go for a gas system (pre 5 star) and get add on cooling. get maybe (for Heating) HE25 min or HE30 (25kwatt, 30 kwatt) depending on house size. Then you want to work out how much of the house to you want to cool with aic cond. If you are happy with living area during the day then bedrooms at night that single phase 15kwatt should be heaps. If you want to cool the whole house and are happy to pay the running cost then go for a big 3 phase unt. I am not a fan of the reverse cycle units because during winter they cost to much to run. GAS is more effecient, for heating. ALso the heationg unit can not cope properly if you want to do the whole house. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 4Jan 20, 2009 2:35 pm Hi there,
we have a brivis me30 xa heater with an 18 kw add on a/c unit this is three phase and running costs are less than we expected if you go large single phase unit will cost to much to run. have 2 zones with one zone selected living area. As i type it is 39 degrees outside in melbourne and 22 inside unit will cycle at this temp but at 21 degress stays running all the time if i open second zone temps rises to around 24-25 two zones open is cooling 24 SQ's one only around 15SQ. Have been wrapt with the system as i HATE evap cooling. Evap often runs same temps but humidity is around 80% compared to refridge 5-10% ?. hope this helps Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 6Jan 20, 2009 10:37 pm Hi
We have had a quote( $13,300), which we are going with, for a Daikin 15.5 kw inverter single phase reverse cycle unit. It includes 11 outlets, 8 zones, and 2 return air grilles. We were happy with this quote. Hope this helps. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 7Jan 22, 2009 10:52 am Hi all,
We just had a quote for an LG 16kw Single Phase Ducted INVERTER Split System. The guys quoted for two options: 1. 13 floor/ceiling 4 zones, Deluxe with zoning Wall Mounted $13,560 2.13 floor/ceiling 8 Premium zones, Advantage Air Zone 10 Control, 7 x Variable Air Volume Control ,Deluxe Wall Mounted $19,540 It's all inclusive and includes removal and disposal of existing unit (heating) and duct. Do you think that's reasonable for a two storey 5 bedroom house? Appreciate any feedback. Cheers Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 9Jan 22, 2009 11:48 am Hi,
That was one of my main qs to the guys and whether we should go to a three phase and a more powerful unit. I guess we won't be using all areas at the same time, unless we have guests. I am still in two minds over the zoning options - $6k difference. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 10Jan 22, 2009 11:59 am ZOning is great as it can save money. However when you talk $6K extra you will save more if you just put it towards your morgage.
Seriously inverters are only good for Air conditioning. THe best way to heat a house is using GAS, the is the cheapest way. You should seriously consider A brivis HE30 (runs on GAS) and add on cooling say either 15kwatt min with softstart, with 3 or so zones. You should be able to get this for 12 grand!!!. Go to www.energyrating.gov.au and i am sure you will find the unit you have been specified isnt really the cheap to run. while i acknowledge that they would be cheaper to run for cooling due to the inverter technology however high heating costs off set that. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 11Jan 29, 2009 7:29 am Should've thought of getting a cooling only system, didn't really occur to me that we didnt really need the heating part - being in QLD.
Anyway, we got the Daikin 22kw non-inverter reverse cycle, 5 zones, 11 outlets for 13k. I did get at least 20+ quotes, with prices going all the way up to 21k. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 12Jan 29, 2009 8:42 am Brad & Sonya Hi We have had a quote( $13,300), which we are going with, for a Daikin 15.5 kw inverter single phase reverse cycle unit. It includes 11 outlets, 8 zones, and 2 return air grilles. We were happy with this quote. Hope this helps. Is it recommended to have that many zones with that many outlets? Or is this doable because its on a single phase? When we were getting quotes for AC people were telling us it was no use putting in zoning to enable cooling of just one room (we wanted to put the master bedroom on a separate zone to the minor bedrooms). [sneakersss] Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 13Jan 29, 2009 9:00 am We have a r/c single phase system, 5 zones, 8 outlets, cost $11,500 for a 23 square house.
Each bedroom and formal lounge has an outlet and casual liveing has 4 outlets - we were told we must run at least 3 outlets at any one time - this means we can run just bedrooms during night or liveing areas during day or any combination as long as minimum of 3 outlets running. Must save money as we don't have to run entire house when we don't need to, but can if we want to. We have been here since October so not sure about heating yet but cooling is doing great job, even in >40 deg weather. Just as a comparison for you, we are building a 33sqr (living) single story, 5brm home and we are putting in a 24kw inverter system. Forgot to mention... We are paying about $14,500 for this unit fully installed, but we will get some sort of credit back from the builder on the other unit that was meant to be put in. Good-Luck. Re: Ducted Air Conditioning - any suggestions? 15Jan 30, 2009 6:49 am I'm new to all this ducted aircon business so some advice would be great - what size refigeration unit would be needed for a house that's 17sq m (don't need to do the 4 sq garage! lol) and a roughly how much would that cost with 2 or 3 zones ?
Also, would I be better getting it done separately and in different vents in the roof or the same as the heating ones? 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Your house isn't 17sq m, trust me :p squares are a different measure to square metres. We'll have a 19.5kw system for our double storey so anything less than that would be adequate. Extra zones cost a couple of hundred each. Think you'd be looking along the lines of 10k for a ducted reverse cycle system. Quote: Also, would I be better getting it done separately and in different vents in the roof or the same as the heating ones? Depends on what system you get. If you're going refridgerated aircon, get a reverse cycle one (cooling/heating in one). If you want evaporative, you'll need to do your heating seperately.
