Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 13, 2009 6:37 pm Gday,
im a newbie on here and have recently decided to build my first home. we are building a Deacon 28 with Placeshomelandlife. ive got some questions relating to heating. the house is about 216 square meters living. we are toying with the zoning idea. my plan was to get three fully variable zones with upsized ducting to allow 1 zone to operate only. the only issue is its costing an additional $2000 for the 3 zones and upsized ducts... is it worth it? can anyone share there experiences with zoneing? thanks, steve Re: need help with Zoning 2Jan 13, 2009 9:32 pm Hey Steven, welcome to the forum, we have 4 zones in a 37 sq single story house.
One common zone in the family/kitchen/meals area, one zone for the rumpus/theatre, one for the back 3 bedrooms and one zone for the master, study and lounge/kids playroom at the front of the house. Works really well for us. See if you can negotiate on the price, the zone motors are approx $200 each plus any ductwork req'd. Re: need help with Zoning 3Feb 16, 2009 10:28 pm When i design systems i try to add as many zones as possible. I will regularly sell systems with 7 or 8 zones. They really should only add about $200 to the price per zone as phoenix said. We usually add them on at cost as they don't really make the install any harder.
Re: need help with Zoning 4Apr 08, 2009 9:43 pm If only 25% of the house is being heated/cooled is there a way to get the air con to only use 25% of its maximum power usage? :S Or does it always use the same amount of energy regardless of how many vents are switched "on"? Re: need help with Zoning 5May 19, 2009 4:12 pm 'Actron Air' have a model that incorporates thermostatically controlled zones. They are very reliable and even give a full 5 year warranty including warranty. IAS have a SMARTZONE system that can be added to almost any existing system. These are also very reliable if installed correctly. Comes with 5 year warranty (part only). There are a few other systems we deal with that also from our experience are also reliable.
