Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 12, 2009 9:32 am Hey guys,
A relatively quick question for you guys, as part of our home build, we've requested ducting be throughout our house. We've also asked to have electrical cables for the ac panels to be run to the main floor as well as upstairs, and to have 3 phase power run outside for the motor. We are planning to get a unit about 1 year after we build our house. I was thinking about it the other day and was wondering whether getting a reverse cycle would be ideal, or a ac unit with a addon heating unit. Are their any extra provisions I'd need to make if we were going to get one of those add-on units (i.e. natural gas point outside next to AC, powerpoint, etc). I just want to make sure I dont' leave any gaps. Side note, we live in Sydney but still use the heater quite a bit in winter, so would prefer to have a cost efficient heating method for the house. Also, anyone have any ideas on how much a ac unit would generally cost (very rough figure?). This will be a 39 square home that will need a heater. Nav Re: Ducted Heating & Air Conditioning 2Jan 12, 2009 9:50 am I take it you are getting a heater installed immediatley. If so what model will this heater be??
Also you may wish you zone your current duct work. Chances are you will not beable to get a domestic air cond that will cool 39 square, even if you could i wouldn't be prepaired to cool such a large area anyway due to the high cost. Make sure that the duct work is suitable for AIR COND. Also you may want to add a large filtered return air. Re: Ducted Heating & Air Conditioning 3Jan 12, 2009 10:02 am Hey borg,
We've requested the ducting primarily for air conditioning, the heating was something we were just thinking of now. The ductwork is meant for air conditioning, and we are planning for 3-4 zones. Nav Re: Ducted Heating & Air Conditioning 4Jan 12, 2009 10:11 am Nav - we're going for reverse cycle - my parents have the same and if you only switch on the zone you're in - heating and cooling costs aren't too bad.
Remember that you also get an internal gas point - so a good gas heater (flued would be even better) will heat up downstairs living areas quite nicely. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Ducted Heating & Air Conditioning 5Jan 12, 2009 10:16 am Sounds good maybe consider one of the high effiency Brivis units
for Heating HE30I and then later on get the add on cooling maybe 21kwatt Please note that i do not work in this area. So you may wish to consult a heating cooling company. My adivise is just my view. I believe the unit will be around $5K Plus installation.
